Help! NASCAR and WINDOWS 95!

Thats strange because Nascar seems to run better(DOS PRMPT)than it
did under native dos.
Have you ran memmaker from DOS? I ran memmaker twice. 1. I booted
using F4(dual Boot)then ran memmaker pressing f4 as soon as win95
started on the reboots.  2. I ran memmaker from Dos Window. seems to
work fine now.

Help! NASCAR and WINDOWS 95!

by B. Keith Barbo » Sun, 03 Sep 1995 04:00:00

Ever since I installed Windows 95, I have had trouble with NASCAR
running.  I runs nowhere near as well as it used to.  I have a 486\DX 33mhz
with 8 meg of ram.  Before I installed Windows 95, I could run a race with
17 cars with all features turned on and it ran fairly well.  Now, if I run 17
cars, it almost looks like it is running frame by frame.  This is one of my
favorite games and I want it to run like it used to.  Can someone help me
with the best possible way to run it.  I have tried quitting Windows and
running it from the command prompt in dos, running it from Windows,
and no matter what I do, it runs very slowly.  I am stumped and would
appreciate any help someone might have.

Thanks,

Keith

I just got Windows 95 and I got Nascar to work the way it used to in DOS.  I
started to fiddle with the Nascar.exe file properties in Windows 95.  I don't
know if what I did was correct but it works and thats all I wanted.  Here goes:
First you right click the Nascar.exe icon in Windows 95 and choose properties
from the pop up menu.  Then you go into the Program Tab and click on the
advanced button.  Then select MS-DOS mode, and Specify a new MS-DOS
configuration.  In the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat, put in all the lines that
you used to have in your old Config.sys and Autoexec.bat that got the game
working before the way you liked it.  Remember that if you were using Himem.sys
and SmartDrv that you use the new drivers in the Windows directory.  Then click
OK and you should see a shortcut created automatically for Nascar.exe.  It
doesn't matter if you double click on the shortcut or the Nascar.exe file, it
still works the same.  When you do, it will reboot the computer and use the new
Config.sys and Autoexec.bat file that you created for that program and it
should (It does for me at least) work the way you like it.  Then when you exit
the game, the computer will reboot again and start Windows 95 with it's own
Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files like before.  So in other words, you are
making a boot disk without actually using a disk.  You can do this with all of
your DOS programs that seem slower in Windows.  I don't mind my computer
rebooting as long as I can play my Nascar with a good frame rate.  I hope this
helps and let me know if it does.  Also, maybe there is a better way, so if
anyone knows of one please share it with us.  Thanks.
