Can someone please explain "FM sound"?
Does it depend on your sound board?

I have a AZTECH sound galaxy sound board and using FM sound makes
NASCAR sound like a cheap kids toy with a tin speaker.

I think I ended up using "Microsoft 8-bit Stereo" and it sounds great!

FM sound is the cheap sound WRT memory.  It is mainly there to help people
with memory or performance problems to try and gain a little extra by
using a little less.....

Digital sound takes a lot more resources than I thought.  When I got my
P133 I thought I could possibly turn digital sound back on, but I can't.
What I've noticed is that my setups are very sluggish with digital sound
enabled.  I can't afford to give up 2mph for the increase in realism.

The mixing of the different engine sounds can take some considerable time from
the CPU. If Nascar has  good support for the GUS soundcard then using the GUS
will result in less CPU time used for mixing the sound. The GUS will do all
the mixing ( up to 32 chanels ).

Guys....  I know a little about computers... But this is rediculous.
What is WRT memory?
What is GUS?

And I thougth I was doing good understanding IRQ's.

O.K. So some people use FM sound even though it sounds crappy just to
improve frame rates.  Would you do this before or after you give up
car graphics?  Personal preferance?  To me, to play without good sound
and good car graphics would really take alot away from the game.  It
would not be much of a simulation if it sounds like a cheap kids toy
and the cars look like cardboard boxes...

WRT == "With Respect To"

I believe that is the intent.

Gravis Ultra Sound.

The "GUS" TLA (ThreeLetterAcronym) is one I thought everybody knew!!!
Of course, that means somebody will come along and tell me that it
means something other than that that I thought it did!! Wheeee!
