I have found that loading the UNIVBE Vesa Driver boosts frame rates by
about thirty per cent on my system :>
My system is Pentium 166 mHz, 32megs FPM, Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM video
card, Windoze 95.
After loading UNIVBE I can run all tracks smoothly (except Monaco) at 17
fps with ALL graphics details on.
Unfortunately the sky gives me motion sickness :o~ Turning it off I can run
at 22 fps.
At Monaco I can run 16 fps smoothly with all graphics except sky.
Don't know why I get such a big improvement in frame rates, I assume GP2
must check to see if VESA2.0 is available and uses it if it is ??? Or
maybe the UNIVBE driver hooks the VESA 1.x modes and implements them faster
than the video BIOS.
PS GP2 is a GREAT game. You've just got to take the time to learn to
drive. 200 hrs was all it took me ;)
