Any suggestions of a good wheel for Nascar4?
I have a T2 now but it doesn't seem to keep the calibration good under W2K.

Any thoughts on FF versus regular wheel?

I am currently looking at the Logitech Formula non-FF.  The Act-labs looks
nice but expensive.

T2 Wheel? Probably Old/Used allot. Try replacing the steering/pedal pots. I
rebuilt my T2 wheel many times, "Heavily Modified" cross bracing, extra
wheel to shaft clamp etc. SuperBike Racing beats the hell out of the
wheel/pots.

I use the same pots that are the mid level pots in the TSW wheels, (Junk
IMHO). But I don't pay the TSW price, ($12.99us last time I checked). You
can get them (NTE pots) in the Boston Massachusetts area at Active
Electronics (stores in Cambridge & Woburn) for $6.99

Love that "Ole T2 Wheel" many fond memories of Nascar 1 full race wins with
that wheel. It's still setup on a 486 DX100 with a Matrox Graphics card that
I keep on the network for a printer server.

Think I'll take a trip down "Memory Lane". LOL

I'm pretty sure the non-FF Logitech wheel has accelerator and brake
physically on the same axis, i.e. no way to set up split axis in
software.  It's also gameport only.  The Logitech FF wheel *does* allow
split axis but is USB only.  Logitech currently has a $20 rebate running
on the FF wheel, as marked on the box, so you should be able to get it
for about $80 net.  And its gear drive mechanism feels about the same as
the MS and Thrustmaster FF wheels, IMO - i.e. a little notchy, but
nothing you can't get used to.  I just bought a Logitech FF wheel and am
pretty happy with it.  See if you can find a store that has a demo unit
set up.  Many CompUSA stores do this.  Then try it, and see how it
feels.  If you can't stand the notchiness, then you either have to
forget about FF, or step up to the Act Labs unit, or see if you can find
the old cable drive Logitech FF wheel used somewhere.

Thanks.  I assume you mean the new Formula Force GP.  I heard it was made a
bit light but may have to try it since that's all I can find around here.
For the most part do you like it?  Wasn't sure if I would go FF as it may
not add much and make things harder but might have to try it.  The Act-Labs
is nice but expensive.

I have the same wheel (Logitech FF GP)and I play mostly Nascar 4 these
days. I don't think I could go back to a non-FF wheel in that game. It
may not make you faster, but it will add control and immersion.

Ah cool.  So the FF GP is pretty decent?
What were you using before?  I mainly want it for Nascar 4.

The wheel itself is decent, no doubt about that. It may feel plasticky,
but the pedals are OK, as is the FF. Nothing outstanding about the
wheel, mind you, but for the price it's hard to beat. I had a TM Sprint
wheel before.

Nascar 4 does such a great job of modelling the forces on the front
wheels that you'll never turn the wheel to much as you can 'feel' the
fronts fading away when the wheel goes light. It also helps with car
control, as you can sense under/oversteer better.

I'd have to agree completely, I don't think I could go back to playing
racing games without FF.  I hear people say how N4 isn't realistic with FF
but it's certainly more realistic with FF than without it.  I can feel when
the front tires are skating just as I can in a normal car.

Thanks.

Before getting my AL wheel about a year ago now, I used the MS FF wheel, I
still know a number of drivers using it that are still pleased with theirs.
I mainly changed for the AL shifter.

Great.  Based on the feedback so far it sounds like FF is the way to go in
Nascar4.
I think I'll go with the Logitech Formula Force GP for now as it is so much
cheaper that the AL.

It also keeps me from doing too much steering when racing at high
speed. With a non-FF wheel, it's much easier to steer to much.

Too add the FF feel is customizable within your 'applet' usually too & when
using your FFB for any sim it does not have that *fake* "bungiie" feel! You
can also have the center-to-zero-spring or not!! Once you learn all the plus
factors of any FFB controller you'll never go back to a non-FFB-controller
again {imho}... my 2cent Thom_j.

I only use the TM aka Guillemot FFB Ferrari Race Wheel [& their joystick]
but I would think any of the top name brand FF wheels would be ok...
Good Luck.....Thom_j.

Basically I agree with everything that has been said in all the other
responses you got.  None of the wheels you will find under $200 are
really sturdily built, but OTOH none of them are all that bad either.  I
think the Logitech FF GP is as good as the MS or TM FF wheels, and it
costs a lot less.  And even though I wouldn't say that FF is necessary,
I will say I like it a lot and am glad that I spent the extra money to
get it.  It honestly took me a whole week to get used to it, I was
really uncomfortable with it at first.  And with some games it takes a
little bit of extra fiddling around to get it to work properly.  But
once you get used to it and get it set up right it definitely makes it
easier to drive the car at the limit.  My N4 lap times definitely went
down after about a week of practice and tweaking.

Well I got a Logitech FF GP and it seems pretty good.
Won the first race I used it online.
I would recommend it for the price.
