REQ: Wheel recommendation for N2?

I'm looking to buy a steering wheel/pedal thingy (is that a technical
term?) for my son for Christmas.  System is:

Gateway 2000 P90 w/150 MHz Overdrive installed
ATI Mach32 graphics card
Ensoniq Soundscape

We both play Nascar/Nascar 2 (when it arrives!) and ICR2.
Any recommendations?  What's the best one out there?

IMHO I reckon it's the ECCI Competition Driving System, now in its 2nd
incarnation. I've had mine over a year now and it's the mutt's nuts!

Contact John Pribble of ECCI for lots of interesting details, or the

I've been using the Thrustmaster T-2 wheel and pedals for a few months now
and truly LOVE it!!  Some folks here will tell you that the T-2 is of
cheaper construction than some other wheel & pedals, but for the money you
can't beat it.  Plus, the T-2 is available in local computer stores!  It
sells for about $120 in southern CA, while the "good" set ups are from $250
and up.  BTW, Nascar 2 is *WAY* better than Nascar 1, but BE SURE TO VISIT
the Sierra site ***BEFORE*** you install N2.  There is a bug during
installation that corrupts several Internet access programs (CompuServe,
Internet Explorer, MSN).  They have a patch at Sierra for this.

IMO, the best combo is the Thrustmaster GP1 and the CH Pedals.  Put
together, it all costs about the same as the Thrustmaster T2 and you get
better pedals and more buttons and levers on your steering wheel.

To each his own. But I can't fathom why somebody would add pedals to the GP1.
First the cost of both would be greater tha T2 but the hand levers work great
with the GP1 already.

Well, I can't speak for anybody else, but in my case I already had the
pedals for use with Air Warrior and other flight sims, so hooking them
up with the GP1 was a no-brainer.  I personally prefer the "feel" of
the pedals to the hand levers on the GP1, but in all honesty, I've
only driven a few laps with it just to try it out, so that's not
really a fair comparison.  But like you said, to each his own :)

Well, I really can't fathom why anybody would like to accelerate
and brake with his hands, I really need them to steer! 8^)

Cuz it makes me faster than you!  ; )

Seriously, you might want to give the GP1 a test drive.  I

Well, for one... there are those of us in wheelchairs that use hand
controls on our real cars, and for that reason... the GP1 is way overdue!
I absolutely love mine... finally I can have partial acceleration and
braking.. no more "all or nothing" with buttons on a joystick or other
controller.  And it does make a difference... I have improved my times at
all the tracks.  A big THANKS to Thrustmaster for the GP1!

Sorry, while writing the post I thought about mentioning people with
disabilities (correct term?), but I thought, this exception would be
implicitly clear.

Again 15 out of 15 of my buddies prefer the GP1 over the T2.

It's simply quicker to respond with the hand contollers. But their both great.
