Some wheel users prefer the greater non-linearity of the "joystick"
(nee "non-linear") to the near linearity of the "wheel" (nee "linear")
mode. (I can't imagine a stick user would be happy with "wheel", but
they could try it I guess.)
Use whichever you like; the wheel mode is closer to linear (half
deflection gets you close to half steering angle, quarter gets you
quarter, etc); the stick model is less sensitive across the center
(full deflection gives full steering angle, but half might give 3/8ths
and 1/4 deflection might give 1/8, etc) This accounts for the fact
that it's harder to make subtle inputs near the center of a joystick.
No inherent performance advantage or penalty to either input method.
