From the Speedvision website:

"Speedvision will relaunch on Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, as Speed Channel. Fans
of Inside Winston Cup will be delighted to learn that the show will be
brought back as part of regular Speed Channel programming. Network president
Jim Liberatore promises that Speed Channel will remain the top motor sports
destination on television."

It was fun while it lasted....

The last paragraph of the full story reads as follows:

"Speed Channel, which celebrates its sixth anniversary in January 2002, is
the first and only 24-hour cable network devoted exclusively to motorsports
and the human fascination for speed. Speed Channel is home to much of the
world's marquee racing events including CART, Formula 1, Classic Cars, Le
Mans, the American Le Mans Series, the World Rally Championship and car
shows from around the globe. Currently seen in more than 45m homes, Speed
Channel was acquired by Fox Cable Networks Group in July 2001. - Erik
Arneson, CMI (Artwork: Speedvision)"

One can only hope that they maintain the variety of motorsports coverage
that is mentioned above....

It was really over for me last night.  As I was channel surfing I saw SV
was airing lawnmower racing.  I thought there was hope a few weeks ago
when I watched some karting event they were airing from Europe, but last
night that hope died..... :(

Tonight's episode is backhoe digging racing.  I question if this "sport" has
anything to do with the human fascination of speed?

Here's what I sent 'em:  "I know you got 40,000 signatures on a petition NOT
to become the NASCAR Channel 24/7.  Here's another.  I'm a road racing fan.
NASCAR is soooo over, like 1960s cars, 1970s drivers and 3-testicle 1980s
announcers.  I'll watch Speedvision when the Cup returns to the
Bridge(hampton), i.e., never.  --Steve Smith (former Editor, Car & Driver)"

Great news, Inside NASCAR was the best show going, gotta love Schrader, Benson,
and Mikey.

I agree with that at least Bruce.  Schrader and Waltrip were such a hoot
together.  Remember it was Mikey who championed the 'out of bounds' line
rule now in effect at the superspeedways.(funny how Jeff Gordon hasn't been
able to win one since they outlawed driving down on the apron.)
I just hope that the price we pay for bring them back isn't the loss of
Road Racing in general.

I too enjoy the varity of racing on SV just cant get exited about F1. There are
already too many NASCAR recap type shows and unless I miss the race I don't
watch them but IWC was always a must see for me.

They've been showing "lawnmower racing" for years. It's nothing new and has
nothing to do with FOX or NASCAR. "God" only knows why they show garbage
like that in the first place...

They always show Truck pulling and Lawn Mower racing when the other
stuff isn't available.  I actually watched LMR for 30 mins :)  It's good
really -- the variety on Speedvision is what keeps it interesting.

'cause it doesn't cost much to air and might generate different
sponsor/audience then powerboat racing?

'cause they can only air "Legends of Motorsport" so many times a day?

'cause they might have committed to x number of hours of original
programming?

FOX paid HUGE for the Nascar rights, so it only makes sense that they'd want
to leverage that investment for as much as they can, so if they've got a 24
racing network in their stable of course they're going to tie the 2
together.  Now add the huge potential for merchandising that comes with
Nascar that they're going to get a piece out of (I bet there's a lot more
Richard Petty salt & pepper sets, wall clocks, pillow cases, etc.. sold then
Michael Schumaker ones).

The best we can do is yell and scream for an Speedvision2 (like ESPN2) to
show the "other" racing (see you cable company for availability)

  "Andre Warringa
I'm still waiting for them to put slicks on the F-15 Eagles.  If someone is
drafting too close behind you, you light up the afterburners and send him a
20 foot cone of flame.  If another driver is blocking you from
passing...just heat up the sidewinder.  As soon as his sensors start
screaming he either gets outta the way or gets a heatseeker up his tailpipe.
