Don't think so. This is getting to be a problem, actually - a recent
issue of (I think) PC Gamer (UK) had a whinge about the number of
companies either putting out very late demos or not doing so at all.
There was a slight implication that PC Gamer's reviewers might take
this into account in their ratings in the future, and if so, I'd
support them all the way.

Microsoft are the worst offenders, of course (has Flight Simulator
*ever* had a demo?), but the infection is spreading. Unreal, a few
years ago, didn't have a demo, which meant I didn't buy it. And, more
relevant to r.a.s, the Rally Trophy demo was only on mag cover CDs (as
opposed to a download) in the current issue - *far* too late. OKay, so
JoWood aren't a huge company, but there's even less excuse for the
likes of EA.

Which is why I specifically said "as opposed to a download". Games that
are intended for a general market should *always* have a reasonably
early (ie *before* the game is released in teh shops) cover CD demo as
well.

You could download the RT demo. It was even advertised to download by
Jowood. You can even d/l at big sites like the Adrenaline Vault.

2001:

I think we're talking at cross-purposes here. I *did* d/l the demo. The
point I was making is that I shouldn't *have* to have done - it should
have been available on a CD before the release. Like... er... GPL.

Yep, that GPL demo sure boosted sales to earth shattering levels.

David, I don't think hardly any companies are producing CD releases of demos anymore, with so many
consumers with broadband connections, its much more cost-effective to just to just make it available
for d/l now.
