I know its probabaly too late to add this game, so we can add it to the
wish list at least.  The one place where NASCAR does not let us play, as
far as the STG settings in engine adjustments.  Most people don't know all
that much about camshaft degreeing, and rocker arm ratios, so lets not go
that deep into anything.  Besides there are NASCAR approved parts and specs
that couldn't be messed with.  But how about just simple ignition timing
and carberator jetting?  It would be simple enough to add to the game I
think, mind you I know absolutely nothing about programming.  But I do know
about engines (ASE certified master technition).  If NASCAR 2 is
incorperating breakdown as in Indycar 2, then I think my idea would work
perfectly in the game.

The ability to change ignition timeing (advance curve) could add a little
extra horsepower, if advance too much though it could lead to engine
failure due to pinging (burn a hole in the piston).  If not advanced enough
(retarded) you would loose some power.

Changing the carberator jetting could also give you a few extra ponies
(richer mix), or better gas mileage (leaner).  However overjetting (too
rich) will only rob power, and too lean of a mix may burn a piston.

I think this would add another level of realism and enjoyment to what is
already the best sim in its class.

In order for this to work, you would have to be able to read a spark
plug. This would be very hard to do in a sim, plus most people couldn't
tell the difference between a lean plug and a rich plug. They also
probably couldn't tell the early signs of detonation on a plug. This
would be a must for your two ideas.
