I was looking at the screen shots, and I couldnt help but notice
the HUGE ammount of space of nothing at the top of the screen.

You should use that area of the screen!  One of the biggest problems
with the realism is the total lack of visibly.  I am a big fan
of jet fighter sims where the problem also exists.  To compensate,
the better ones develop unique views, like Falcons 'padlock' view.

This is what I propose.  Put the left and right windows at the top
of the screen!  And then make the rearview a bit bigger, and make
it a true rearview...can take out the left and right part of it.
Theres plenty of room for all that.  Sure it doesn't LOOK realistic,
but the main goal of a sim is for it to PLAY realistically.  And this
would certainly help.

Making use of the whole screen for alternate views has worked for
fighter sims for years.  I think Nascar would greatly benefit from
this, taking it to that next level of realism.

Only problem with that is, in Nascar you really can't take a quick
glance to either side (can't wait for the vitual reality helmets for
that).  They do need to impelment somthing so you can see what is going
on on either side of you.  With the side mirrors now, you  can't
accurately tell the distance, nor if you're completely clear (which you
can in real life).  Perhaps a small radar screen, like in Daytona U.S.A.

I have an alternative idea for the use of the top of the screen.
Insert warning lights that represent each corner of the car.  When a
car is on your right-rear quarter, the lower right light lights up.
When a car is side-by-side with you on the right, both right-side
lights come on, etc.

Well, for starters have you ever seen the view of the world you get
while wearing a racing helmet? From my experience you would have to
tip your head back a ways to see even the top pf the windshield in
some race cars. Actualy I think the wink style mirror in the sim now
works just fine if made just a hair larger and had viewable graphics
for the passing/passed cars. As it is now just a quick glancee and you

The mirror in the sim is a lot like the ones I used to see at
willamette speedway until the barred mirrors due to "Too much

This is a pretty good idea.  If you have audible spotters it shouldn't
really be necessary though.  They may want to look at this as an
optional method.  This would have been nice to see in the Hawaii
beta from the start.  Would have been easy to implement and little cpu
overhead like the other suggestions hear.  By the time N3 comes out
there should be good hi-res head-tracked VR helmets on the market.
This is the only real solution IMO.

Love your idea about the helmets.  I was just curious as to whether or not this
would actually be a consideration in the future.  There are already virtual
goggles/glasses available for pc's.  Why don't they incorporate them into the
sim?  Ed? Adam? Anyone?

I can tell you why.  The technology for VR visors and the like is very
young.  The display and resolution is very poor, and I've heard that
they are more disorienting than anything else.  Definitely something
for the future, though.
