All I know is I want to be able to abort a pit stop and go back out to
keep from going a lap down. Now, if you stop to fix damage, you're
there for the duration. Make it like the real thing...you fix part
now, go back out to keep from losing a lap, and fix the rest later.

I have an idea for Nascar 2 or an upgrage for Nascar 2. How about being able
to decide weather you have a passenger side window or not. In the short tracks
they dont use a window because they want more downforce but on superspeedways
they use it for better aerodynamics. Does anyone support me on this idea???

Hate to tell you this Mark, but the use of the passenger side window is
not a choice the teams make to help performance.

The passenger side window is required by NASCAR at certain tracks.  It was
first instituted at the Pepsi 400 in 1987, along with the lower right side
aero skirt and smaller carb (later the restrictor plate), in an attempt to
keep the cars from getting airborne.

From 1987 through mid-1992, the window was only required at Talladega and
Daytona.  However, following Davey Allison's crash at Pocono in July of
1992, NASCAR mandated that the window also be installed at Pocono,
Michigan, C***te, Atlanta, and later at Indy.  They may use it at
Darlington, but I'm not sure.

well thats not what its used for i though it was mandatory on tracks 1
mile and longer and optional on short tracks.  its used for when they get
sideways it keeps them on the ground....

That's something I'd want alot too. So many times I've wanted to go from
the pits because I didn't want to lose a lap or more positions.

If I'm not mistaken, this will be in NASCAR 2. It's already made it's way
to the MULTI version.

In addition to this, I'd like to see the AI cars use the same strategy. It
would also be nice to see AI cars that are off the pace due to engine or
handling problems. Right now, they have two speeds, FAST and DEAD. Also, a
car that goes out for ignition problems should come back out again after a
couple of laps, it doesn't take them long to change the box, instead the
get a DNF.

I am in total agreement with this!  It's rather annoying to have AI cars
suddenly drop out of the race, never to return.  Actually, has anyone
noticed that such cars will exit the pits on yellow flags, and return by
the green?

The closest thing I've seen to the "wounded car limping around the track"
scenario was when a car got moderate sheet metal damage at an IRCA race at
Talladega.  The car was never gonna win, but the AI driver stayed in
there, plugging away.  The field lapped him every 20 laps or so.  It was
so much more like a real NASCAR race!

I would love to see cars suffer internal damage on the track, and have
such things appear on the course, like oil spots or similar fluids (which
would be covered by sim Quik-Dri during the yellow) or smoke trails from
mortally wounded engines, or debris on the track that can cut down a tire.
As it is, there can be a horrific wreck with sheet metal everywhere, but
no one ever has to worry about their tires.  Right now, the only way to
ruin a tire is by mangling the whole -wheel- or by running it down to nothing.

How do you stop repairs in progress?

You hit <return> while they are repairing, and it will finish the current
repair and then let you go.

Pull up the F9 screen (Pit Status/Repairs) while you're in the pits. You'll
see a purple bar across the top of the status display that indicates the
progress of the pace car around the track. You'll also see the indicator
Repair/Do Not Repair Damage. There may also be an indicator that tells you
how long the next repair is going to take.

When the pace car gets close, hit the Enter key to stop repairs. It usually
takes a few second for the crew to finish what they are doing and then
you'll hear the familiar slap on the fender to tell you to get going. Make
sure you allow yourself enough time to get out of the pits ahead of the
pace car on tracks where the pace speed is faster than 55 MPH.

I've managed to keep a damaged car on the lead lap this way and just repair
a little bit of damage each time the yellow comes out.

Agreed Dave while we all LOVE multiplayer I hope they don't forget to
try to improve on the AI performance in NASCAR 2. I haven't seen the
NASCAR 2.0 AI improvements (if any) talked about much.

It's sounding like they are gearing this thing up 99% around
multi-player mode  :(.

Dave,

If I understand correctly, you are doing this in Hawaii, right? Not
NASCAR 1.21 in single player mode......
