Hate to tell you this Mark, but the use of the passenger side window is
not a choice the teams make to help performance.
The passenger side window is required by NASCAR at certain tracks. It was
first instituted at the Pepsi 400 in 1987, along with the lower right side
aero skirt and smaller carb (later the restrictor plate), in an attempt to
keep the cars from getting airborne.
From 1987 through mid-1992, the window was only required at Talladega and
Daytona. However, following Davey Allison's crash at Pocono in July of
1992, NASCAR mandated that the window also be installed at Pocono,
Michigan, C***te, Atlanta, and later at Indy. They may use it at
Darlington, but I'm not sure.
