<splutter> I'm trying to have a reasonable debate here, and there you
are descending into the realms of utter fantasy...!

Did they call it Duke Nukem Forever because that is how long it is going to
be before it is ready ?  :-)

I predict that if it does ever happen (which it won't) no one

[snip]

I don't see any reason it *has* to end in despair and the death of
Papyrus.  Papy existed and was a name in sims before Sierra/Vivendi,
if they're spun off that doesn't mean they're dead.  Maybe they'll see
it as an opportunity to start fresh and show what thier tech can do
with some really exciting cars (the press release seems to lean in
this direction).
And I don't see why them moving into console development is
necessarily a bad thing, either.  The big bucks generated by console
sales is just the kind of thing that could subsidize a pet project
like GPL2.  And with the move to multiplayer on the consoles, no one
can deny that Papy has the best multiplayer racing tech out there
(although LFS looks like a nice breath of fresh air).
Add adjustable physics models (extra power/grip, reduced damage for
arcade modes), and why couldn't Papy make sims that appeal to arcade
*and* sim racers, on multiple platforms?

I'm actually really e***d to hear what they'll have next.  As long
as it's GPL2, Rally, or CART ;).

Pet Projects rarely exist in the world of commercial software development.
people get paid to produce products that make money for the company, its as
simple as that.  Software development is no different than any other
business, they are in it to make money and I cannot blame them for that.
What we see is a strong need/market in sim racing is probably a small sector
in the big scheme of things, especially when you get into the console ***
market.

After seeing the question and answer review of NT03, it will be ARCADE, not
a sim.

EA has yet to do a SIM for Nascar.

"With the full support of Sierra behind us and the creative insight of this
talented studio, I have no doubt that the superior quality Papyrus fans have
come to expect will definitely be translated into more spectacular racing
titles."
Sounds rather positive...

You expected him to say "NASCAR is the only thing that has made a buck
for us, and as soon as they turn out the last title we're going to
***them."?
Ask the guys that made SODA about Sierras full support and the
promised 3Dfx patch.

Damon Runyon was a writer who is perhaps best known for the stories that
became the musical "Guys and Dolls."  In the 1950s, there were radio
adaptations of his stories in a series called "The Damon Runyon Theater."
Really good listening stuff if you're on a long trip, and available in mp3
format for next to nothing.

He's still around Dave, helps with flight sim projects now and then.
