Did you disable _both_ of the game ports? (eg soundcard/mb).

My brother in law has an ACM gamecard that used to support 2 game
devices under Windows 95 which he used for multiplayer games and enabled
him to configure racing sims to use one game device and flight sims
another with out all the reconfiguration hassle. Now he has upgraded to
Windows 98 we can't get the card to support more that one game device at
a time. We have disabled the gameport on his sound card and have the ACM
card using both 0201 and 0209 memory addresses. When we run TMS Scope
(DOS utility) it shows that both gameports and attached devices are
working fine. We have tried everything that we can think of. He has a
PII 333MHz, 64Mb memory, on board standard game/midi port and sound
card....
Please help. Thanks in advance,
Paul

As far as I know, the fact that you got both of the ports to work on
the ACM gamecard was a fluke, as Win 95 didn't ever officially support
both of them (yes, it has/had a driver for the card, but directx was
not set up to recognise both ports) . I tried for a long time to do
what you managed to do, but never succeeded.

Sorry it was a bit misleading - there is only the one on his mb, and, yes, we
disabled it.

Wasn't there a small tsr on the Thrustmaster website that allowed
use of the 2nd port?  Check that out.   I have a Joyswitch switch box
(not the ch electronic product) and I just switch from a to b and then
go to dx6 and choose either my trusty OLD TM pro stick or my once rebuilt T2
for driving.

The problem isn't the ACM Game Card or Windows 95/98.  The problem is that
most games do not support the 0209 address.  If the games supported both
0209 and 0201, then you could hood two devices (i.e. wheel/pedals on one,
joystick on the other) without going through configuration hassles and
physically changing the connected device.  ARE YOU LISTENING GAME
DEVELOPERS?

Good point, but Windows 98 doesn't seem to recognise the 0209 address either,

Paul,

You are incorrect.  Windows 98 allocates 0201 to 0209 as the resource
input/output range for *** devices (same as Windows 95 did).  I have
played around quite a bit with them...I have hooked a device up to the ACM
card at 0201 and another device to the joystick port on my audio card using
0209.  The device was recognized by Windows 98 on the audio card joystick
port at 0209 while simultaneously recognizing the device on the ACM card at
0201 (In other words...no conflicts were reported by windows)  As I said
before...most games don't support 0209...Windows 95/98 does.

What memory addresses do you use - this is what we want to do (well we'd prefer
to use the two ACM ports) but the soundcard (in this case motherboard) port and
an ACM port would do fine. Please give us a detailed breakdown,
Thanks
Paul

I don't know if this will help with Windows, but here is the URL for
Race Patch.  It allows the use of the 2nd port on the ACM for racing
games.

Dual devices on ACM gamecard

by SpacemanSpif » Tue, 12 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Paul,

I won't have time to write you a detailed explanation until this weekend.
Keep in mind that even if you hook a controller to one ACM port at 0201 and
another device to EITHER the second ACM port (at 0209) or the soundcard port
at 0209; it is a big waste of time because 99 percent of the games don't
support 0209...However, I have figured out a way to hook a device to the ACM
card at 0201 and another device to the soundcard at 0201 and AVOID the
Windows resource conflict.  You can then easily choose which controller to
use without having to constantly hook-up and unhook devices.  Let me know if
you would rather have these details.

Please can we have both? (greedy). He has several games that support dual
devices, though you're right, not enough games support dual joysticks. Thanks
for all your time and trouble,
Cheers,
Paul

This sounds like a neat trick.  Please post how you accomplished this.

Yes please, if you could email me the details I would be most grateful.

I have unplugged my ACM card but it looks likely I might need it agian

Thanks!
