(Mobil 1) Rally Championship - No sound in car

by jwillia » Tue, 08 Jan 2002 02:09:04

Just upgraded my system's hardware to an AMD XP 1800+ and MSI Nforce
mainboard.  Everything else looks okay and I get sound in the setup
screens, music and voiceovers.  But when I get to the race, I get
nothing, no sound, no music, nothing.  I've downloaded and reapplied
the patch from the rally website (ver. 6 I think).  This is the only
game that seems to be suffering from this.  Any ideas?  I can't do
this without my co-driver!  =(

I think there are some problems with rc2000 and XP

No.  I had it working fine before on XP.  I was running an Athlon 1.4
with a plane jane motherboard and was getting sound through the whole
game.  Now I'm wondering if the sound card on the motherboard isn't
playing nicely with the game.  This is the only game I've had any
problems with and I'm hearing the commentators and music before the
stages.  It's just when I get in there it craps out.

Anyone with a configuration similar to mine have the same issues.  If
it were more than just this      game I'd assume that it was a
hardware issue, but it's just this game and only on one particular
portion of it.

check your irq's and see if your onboard sound is sharing an irq with
another device.

hmmm, did you try to remove the onboard and install a real soundcard ?

on XP I have a "scratchy" sound in GPL and SBK 2001 and not in the other
games so there must be some DX sound issues for the old games with XP...

Bingo!  Installed an old pci SoundBlaster 16 card and got sound again.
I'll be damned.  Maybe it's because the game is older?  I don't know,
but thanks for the help.  I missed my co-driver.
