This was a planned option in the game that did not make it into the
final retail version of the game.

Description:
According to the manual, I should have an option under damage to
turn on mechanical failures.  I don't have any such option on the

Look in N4 folder/players/folder with the name you picked to drive with/ and
open the player  ini. file, scroll down and you'll find mechanical breakdowns
listed under teting, single race and world championship, enable it by putting a
=1 and save changes.
Don't know if it work's though, I just found it and I'm waiting to see if
anything happens.
 Take care

Just a thought.  Maybe Sierra was saying that mechanical breakdowns were going
to be an OPTION, and that they decided that instead they would leave the
breakdowns on all of the time.  I have had engines blow and gears go away since
getting the sim two weeks ago.  Seems to me breakdowns are already occuring.
Like I said, Just a thought.

The breakdowns your experiencing would be from abuse.
We can do enough to our cars to cause us trouble, without worrying about the
computer picking on us randomly.

Amen to that!  With the failure rate I get already, I think I'm glad
Papy decided to leave it out. <g>
