GPL Frame Rate Spiking/ Controller Problems

by RWDE » Sat, 29 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I recently installed the most 3dfx reference drive for my Canopus Pure 3C II
card. I needed to do this becasue I also recently installed directx 7.0a on my
Windows 98 system. (Stupid mistake)  I use to get 36 fps in GPL on a 400mz
system with 128 RAM. Now the rate spikes from 36 fps to 15 fps about every
three seconds. Also my contoller (Act Labs Force RS USB with most recent
driver) more often than has no throttle control and the split axis feature
never works. I need to do a clean install of the Force RS driver to get the
controller to work properly, but then it doesn't last long and my system
freezes. I think its a driver conflict, but I could be wrong. What should I do
to troubleshoot? Thanks.

The problem is the Canopus card quit getting driver updates about the
time 3dfx became a board maker instead of just a chip supplier.   Your
Canopus drivers aren't compatible with dx7a...which works pretty dang
good on most systems these days.
The 3dfx reference drivers don't contain any code for the little
tweeks Canopus always used to make for their cards, so you are likely
having conflicts with what your Canopus card wants and what the 3dfx
drivers are offereing.
