GP2 - Malaysia lap times?

by Paul Howar » Mon, 11 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Just going through F1 withdrawal here in Canada and spending a lot of
time with GP2.  I downloaded Malaysia to get myself ready for the next
race and am curious to see how my lap times fare with the real drivers.

In the absence of F1 lap times, I would be curious to see what the best
times people are getting at Malaysia.

My best is 1:39.4, but I think there are at least a couple of more
seconds there to be had with practice (esp. the penultimate turn, the
one before the hairpin before the start/finish line, yikes).

I did 1:34.7 in practise with 12 laps of fuel, a team mate did 1:34.0 in a 9
lap race. Both using a wheel with steering help off.

Here is the setup I used:
   10,1 R37.500:62.500F 39,45,50,55,60,64
             ARB: F 01500 R 0000
28/4/4/00/00/1000/26.0 28/4/4/00/00/1000/26.0
40/1/1/00/00/0600/53.0 40/1/1/00/00/0600/53.0

It will depend on which version of Sepang you are running (author).? I have
3.? 2 of them are very good, but slightly different.? One is from Michael
Olson and the other is from Simon Donald.? Simon's track I find a little
slower time wise, but also a little more detailed.
The other major factor to relative lap speeds is the car you are driving
(grip and HP).? 1:38-1:40 would probably be a good race lap, with a
qualifying lap 2-3 seconds faster.
Michael's track is about 2 seconds faster if my memory serves me well.?
Some corners on his version can be taken much quicker.

A further factor is which track slot (1-16) you use. This can make a
significant difference (couple of seconds IIRC) to times.
