Amount of fuel verses lap times for GP2

To all,

I havent raced GP2 enough (only one week)yet to know if the cars are
doing faster times with less fuel onboard. I guess I am still trying
to keep my car on some the tracks.

In INDY2, the less fuel I have the faster I can run my car, Do the
rest of you in GP2 notice a speed difference with different amounts
of fuel on board.

This may be in the manual, I have not come across it yet, Is fuel only
shown in "number of laps" on***pit or can you see the actual gallons
like in INDY2.

Thanks for any information,

Dave Thayer

I can usually get better lap times with a lighter fuel load.  It's
really hard to tell, but it seems that the CC go alot faster on a 2
pitstop strategy than the guys running a 1 stop.

I am pretty sure it's just "projected" laps.  If I have low downforce
and short-shift alot, I seem to get better gas milage than the dashboard
indicates.  Anyone else have more light to shed on this?

I think I could safely say the car gets quicker with less fuel.
While doing a full race my times usually improve as the fuel goes
down.

It depends on how high you work/rev the engine, I did a lap in 5th/6th
gear and managed to use only half a lap of fuel.

That is the case.  Once you have the setup you want, it's not a bad
idea to go out with fresh tires and 3-5 laps of fuel.  It seems like I
can brake about 5 yards later for each lap of fuel less in the tank.
Btw, 1 lap of fuel will not get you all the way around.

Yes, you're right. Your performance will increase with less fuel. I have tried running with 99
laps of fuel and the car was so slow that it can't even reach 200mph at Hockenheim. You can also
see the plank wears and produces more drag to the car. That's interesting. There is no difference
for 5 laps and 12 laps of fuel as I tried before.

Happy Racing!
