Could you send your laptimes done with a joystick as a followup to
this message! I'd like to compare my efforts with yours, and I'd like to
know how fast I can go! (I haven't found a HOF with control method
mentioned!).

So far I have managed the following times using a m'soft sidewinder

Pacific gp - 1.13.822
Imola gp - 1.23.742
Monaco gp - 1.22.050
Barcelona gp - 1.26.593
Montreal gp - 1.24.019

These were all in practise any circuit and not race conditions. I have
had the game 2 weeks now and am still learning.  Good luck

I've managed:

Pacific 1.10.8xx
Monaco 1.21.043
Monza 1.23.2xx
Imola 1.23.xxx

This is with a Gravis Analog Pro, with all driving aids off, no steering help,
but opposite lock help enabled.

I scraped a 1:23.562 at Monza last week, but I haven't been bold enough to turn
steering help off yet.  Hot (lukewarm?) lap file available on request.

Personally I run with a wheel, but Achim Trensz over on CompuServe is
the hottest joystick runner I've seen. A 1:19.7 at Imola, and a 1:14.4xx
at Interlagos (yes, really!) are his latest gems. Pretty impressive, and
that's without steering help...

Cheers!
John

I found up that the setup of your car, more than practice alone, is
what really matters (of course I might be wrong but this is my
impression).
I use no help whatsoever and a joystick, and was around 1:30 in Monza.
I then started to change the advanced (1) set up and I immediately
managed 1:27. Touching the packers (advanced setup 2) I went down
to high 1:25 in my 2nd lap out of the pits with the new setup ...
now I need to optimize those packers and to understand what all the
others advanced options do, the manual is not great help I think ;)

Bye,
Luca

Plus my 1:16.284 at Monaco ... :-) ... no helps ...

These lap times were all set with a CH Flighstick Pro joystick and no
help options at all.

Interlagos 1m17.260
Aida 1m11.807
Imola 1m23.649
Monaco 1m20.001
Montreal 1m23.547
Hockenheim 1m45.070
Monza 1m24.4??
Estoril 1m21.682
Adelaide 1m15.289

As for Achim Trensz`s 1m14.4 at Interlagos, I think I`ll just crawl
into a corner and cry ;-)

Well these times may be great and all that but it doesn't
really say much because the car you drive makes a big difference.
A Williams is definitely faster than a Minardi - you don't have to
be a rocket scientist to see that in real life, but it's also true
in GP2.

In a Minardi, I've managed to get the following times during
qualifying...

        Monza    1.24.8
        Belgium  1.56.7

With a joystick pad, automatic gear change and auto throttle...
that's it.

Regards,
DP.

Hi Drusilla,

Sorry to disappoint you, but it's not true in GP2 - a human driver
always gets a car that performs like a Williams, regardless of whether
it is called a Williams, Ferrari or Minardi.

Richard

I personnaly think that the car you drive have always Williams performance
but other cars are more prone to mechanical problems.

I was using a Williams a first and almost never got mechanical failure. I
switched to a Simtek now I get loads of mechanical failure (transmission,
brake problems, oil leak,...).

If the performance are better with a Williams I should get much better
than my actual times in practice:

Monza   : 1:21:221
Montreal: 1:20.215
Monaco  : 1:16.982

I tried back with the Williams, with comparable time...

I use wheel+pedal and no aids or driving help.

Errr ... wrong! All the cars perform the same under human control in
GP2,
just like they did in GP1 which, IMO, sucks. Pacific has the same
straight
line speed as does Williams ...
