Beware the online VROC idiot

Beware the online VROC idiot

I usually race GPL online through VROC late at night since I work crazy
hours.  There's not many drivers but everybody is pretty good and knows the
proper manners - actually it's very cliquey with a lot of Aussie drivers
participating in password races - but they seem very nice.  Anyway I raced
today with a friend of mine on an East coast server.  It was a pretty big
field at the Glen.  I qualified near the top and stayed out front away from
the herd.  My friend got stuck in the pack and was wiped out at least 5
times.  After a few laps I encountered tons of lapped traffic that nearly
wiped me out.  I believe I lapped drivers a second and maybe a third time.
Basically it was between me and 1 other driver vying for first and then he
got wiped by a slow moving Ferrari.  I made it buy but he was furious and
justifiably so.  On the second to last lap some idiot name Julia Knight
driving a Lotus was driving the wrong way and continued to run lap after lap
backwards.  She got me on the final lap but  I still won the race.  My
friend and I were appalled.

I've never encountered so many hacks driving.  I mean we all were newbies
once, but show some respect and watch for the blue flag and get the hell off
the road for the faster drivers.  As for Julia Knight, somebody should drive
a brick through her computer so she will never race again.

Is this what's it like during the day?  Lapping cars 3 times??  Backwards
driving?? Please tell me it's an anomaly.

Thanks for listening
JH

it is. I have seen only 3 or 4 drivers actually driving backwards. one
on purpose (a stupid nerd, but I forgot the name ...) and the others
after a crash when they entered the track due to not knowing which way
was the right one (people not knowing the track should stay away from
online races! IMHO this also applies to the 'ring ...).
lapping cars 3 times? in a short race? very rare ... in a long race at
monaco: might happen sometimes, but at the glen? never had this. and I
did some hundred online races yet at almost all times of the day ;-)

I just reviewed the replay and this freak Julia Knight drove the whole race
in 2nd gear deliberately trying to crash into as many cars as possible.
Then for the last 2 laps drove backwards to maximize the destruction.
Unbelievable.

I mostly drive in VROC after 21:00 GMT and I've never seen someone
driving backwards.. but I've heard of it. I guess I'm lucky. Usually
the races are fine (expect the start crashes before T1 at Monza :))
especially because I mostly race with drivers who I know are fair.

I ran into a similar idiot about a week ago in an F2 race at Mexico.

It started out that this guy (girl?) seemed really eager to get to the
track.  After practice time had elapsed and other drivers were
finishing their last lap, he kept asking what the problem was, and why
we weren't "GETTING ON WITH IT" (he typed in all caps too, which seemed
to emphasive all this).  When we finally got to the track and we were
all wishing each other good luck, he was saying "YA, YA. WHATEVER".
That raised a few "Uhh??" from other drivers.

Then the race started.  Looking at the replay I saw this moron, A.
Ferrante was the name, driving all over the place.  It looked like he
had no idea how to drive and he couldn't really stay on the track.  I
ran into him nose to nose (he was driving the track backwards) just
before the Peralta.  After that he drove in reverse for a while.  Then,
after wiping someone out, he decided to purposely take aim and ram the
other car.  Next it was some donuts on and off the track.

We ended up ejecting him from the race.

So either this was some stupid kid using his parents' computer for some
joy riding, or a total jerk who gets off on wasting everyone's time.

Let's hope it never gets to the point where we have to password every
race.

Drive carefully,

Phil Gammon

As for Julia Knight, somebody should drive

I had this pratt at WG last night... totally wrecked a race for Tim Lieghton, C
Charm and myself and a good few others.... this dork (gender unknown, seems to
call itself Julia!) was weaving side to side, ramming cars and driving the wrong
way round the track... intent on causing maximum mayhem until the race leader...
Tim, was taken out, myself (3rd) rammed so many times I gave up on the race...
other drivers also 'taken out' by this idiot... moves are afoot to deal with
this jerk!!!

Mmmm, J Knight?  Now where does that ring a bell?  Oh yeah, that was the
prat driving backwards at Silverstone a week or so ago.  Remember that
one Eldred?  Obviously this 'person' is a complete numbnuts.  All we can
hope for is s/he gets bored and finds some other traffic to play with.
Preferably of the real kind. :-)

With the 1.2 patch you can kick someone from a race I believe? I never
needed this, but when I see someone driving backwards on the track,
I'm gonna kick him for sure!

There was a fellow who posted here a site or his site (sorry I lost the
adress) with useful information about how to drive carefully on tracks. And
contained usefull information on how and where to let pass the quicker
drivers. That opened an eye for me. Not that I was driving backwards or
doing other things on purpose. If that someone could give me the adress
again?

The reason for this is the very high cost of high bandwidth servers in
Australia atm. We used to leave the servers on with no passwords but
the cost was staggering. We get charged per Mb here.

As a solution all the members of a Aussie based sim racing club now
put in some money each month to help cover the cost. Unfortuanly this
has also meant we had to password our servers.

Hope there's no hard feelings.

I had a Jordan Knight(also driving a Lotus, hmm...) show up at Silverstone on
my dedicated server.  Backwards driving, etc.  Total ***.  Unfortunately, I
hadn't connected as boss, so I couldn't eject the creep.  I felt really bad for
the REAL drivers who were there attempting to compete...  This guy/girl doesn't
have two memory chips to rub together...
