Needed: Motherboard and CPU Recommendations

I'm looking to upgrade my home built computer and would like some feedback
as to which board and cpu combo would work best. My current system is as
follows:

Abit BX6 rev 2 with a 400mhz celeron
20 mg ide hard drive
40 mg ide hard drive
256 mg pc100 ram
40x cdrom
Voodoo 4500 video card
Sound Blaster Live Value

I have two options. I can put up a 700mhz P3 in it or upgrade the board and
cpu. If I replace the board and cpu I would like to go with the Athlon 1+
gig processor. Any input on which board would be best would be greatly
appreciated. Input on who to buy through would also be helpful.

Allen,
I just upgraded to a T-Bird 1.333/266 and a Asus A7V133
Used 256 mb Crucial PC-133 ram and two Western Digital
30gb hard drives a Visiontek GF3,Toshiba 40x speed cd-rom
and a SB-Live X-gamer. I bought the cpu,m/b and hd's from
www.newegg.com everything else was drafted over from my old
computer. Newegg has a good rating from www.resellerratings.com
everything shipped the next day and had it the next day after that.
I got the Swiftech MC-370 OA heatsink and fan from
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/ also highly rated and very quick
service.
Everything I bought was all pretty proven stuff and I had no problems
with the upgrade. Just make sure you get the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers
and watch what PCI slot you put the SB Live in and get the latest SB
drivers.Any other questions let me know.
Good Luck
Jim

Hi Allen,

I just bought 1.3gig T-Bird on an Iwill KK266 board. I also ordered
256MB of PC133 RAM, but I beleive the MB will support PC100. I got the
MB/CPU/RAM from a place called Multiwave Direct http://www.mwave.com
I purchased one of their "barebones" system, so everything came
installed in a case (which I needed anyway). While I was on my spending
spree I also picked up a Voodoo5500 card for $120. The MB/CPU/RAM/case
cost $500 but has since gone down in price. I pulled my Maxtor HD and
Sound Blaster X-Gamer out of my old box and installed into the new one.
Everything is working great so far. I did have some problems with the
original V5 card they sent, so I sent it back and they replaced it no
problem. (While I was waiting, I threw in my old 16MB Voodoo3000 and
even that thing rocked playing GPL!) Hope that helps.

Wow, sounds like you've pretty much got the same as me. Definitely go
the Athlon and kt133a chipset mobo. You'll probably be able to use
your pc100 ram at 133mhz, but that isn't definite. Worst case, you can
always get the 200mhz fsb chip and just run at 100mhz ram, to save on
costs. V3 with tbird=mega frame rates :)

You'll probably get the tbird and mobo for nearly the same price as a
1ghz p3 anyway!
