I was just wondering what others who use ICR2/CART to run IRL cars do
to get the speeds closer to real life.  I'm thinking that turning down
the opponent strength to around 95% or so, and turning down the boost
to 5 or something (and leaving it there) may give realistic speeds and
I'm just looking to see what others have found to work.

a while ago, The Sim Project released an IRL patch for ICR2 which was really
awesome. Hopefull they will follow up the patch this year. It had a lot of
promise to it.

Maybe edit the RELS and BLAP sections of the track TXT (the former being the
opponent % of qual speed, the latter being average qual speed)...

Does anyone know where I might find this patch?  I've seen a few
references to it on the web, but the links were invariably dead.

The patch was made by  http://www.simracing.com/simproject
go to the forum at the bottom of the page and ask there. The creator of the
patch will give you more info.

And I must say your anti-spammer thing is absolutely brilliant.

Lighten up dude!

The IRL concept is a good one, and eventually (I predict by 2005) the two
series CART & IRL will have either merged back into one, or CART will be
left behind as the IRL train, by then owned by NASCAR leaves the station....

BTW, I've got an IRL Carset for ICR2 if you want one, but it's a season or
two old... Also you might be able to find the IRL sim by ABC Interactive
"Road to the Indy 500" in your local PC stores bargain bin?

The AI of the game sucks, and it was one of the first racing games to
require/support 3D so the graphics are good but nothing like say SCGT or
ToCA2 however you can run Indy and it also has Sprint cars, Midgets and the
like at places like Winchester, IRP and Eldora! Which for me was enough to
spend $20 on just to fiddle around with :-)

Also, John Bodin who frequents this forum has a website in support of that
game...

I just discovered that my links to The Sim Project IRL98 patch are
dead links (sorry).  I may see about hosting this as a part of The IRL
Insider Magazine site, if The Sim Project views it as a "dead"
project.

I've got a 40-car carset for the current season (I think I got it at
either The Pits or Sim ***world) and a IRL carshape.  My plan is to
run Pole Day and Bubble Day with 40 cars, and use an editor to winnow
the field down to 33 based on those results.  Oh, and I think I'll
stick with ICR2 for now because it is a known quantity for me.  I've
got all my setups and everything, and I'd be starting over from
scratch with a new game when all I want is to run a single race (the
forbidden "Indy").

What, Indy?  Indy, Indy, Indy?

You mean Tony George?  Tony George, Tony George, Tony George?

(Did I just open a portal to another dimension or something by
repeating that name three times?)  :-)

How'd you guess?  I'm green #13.

Tony Stewart doesn't own IMS, Tony GEORGE does...Not for long though, I'm
leading a rebellion in Indy that will take the track back, and hand it over to
the true drivers of CART.
