Hi all, I just wanted to let everyone know, Turner Classics Movie
Channel TCM is showing Grand Prix, at 4 Eastern, 3 Central, today,
April 7th, Thursday.  That is all.

I accidentally bumped into this film on TCM, but too late. I only got
the big Monza round final where Jean-Pierre dies horribly (slides
through auto rail down onto backstraight at bridge).

I really opened my eyes when I could swear to have seen Graham Hill (no
actor in the world can render this man in any degree of fidelity, hehe)
and Phil Hill!

It looked like a classic movie with so-and-so actor performances, but
great footage, authentic from out-board cameras.

Did you see how the suspensions were over-working it at the banked
turns??? Crikey, no wonder people died back then!

I loved the "crooky" look of all the team owners and bosses, hehehehe.
Especially the Ferrari big brass was hilarious.

I will certainly look for any reschedule of this film.

Asgeir,
You *did* see the real drivers (Hill and Hill) and if you had been fortunate
enough to catch the whole film, you would have seen many others.
The names of the teams and actors central to the action were chosen to
simulate the real-life namesakes: Jean-Pierre Sart = John Surtees, for
example.
A great period movie. I trot it out for an airing every six months or so,
reliving the days (yes, I saw it several times!) when it appeared in
Cinerama in the only such-equipped movie theatre in Sydney.

Bruce.

I managed to capture it on DVD (two discs) when Arte aired it the
other year (in German and French), so if somebody's interested please
get in touch.

cheers, uwe
