GPL Questions....

by speedrace » Tue, 24 Aug 1999 04:00:00

first off, when I try to join/host a race on spyboy (beta 2 version,
patched, with gpl 1.103) the game starts, but before i get to the main menue
it bumps me back to the desktop.  Same with hosting, the splash screen
displays, then back to desktop.  An annoyijng problem.  I haven't raced
online in ages.  It all started after I reformatted my drive and reinstalled
everything.

second, trying to go multiplayer with a friend:  using tcp/ip with our ip's
we hook up but he gets disco'd almost immediately if he's even able to
connect.  I'm on a t3/ethernet he has a modem connection.  Could it be
becuase his modem is one of those crappy modem/sound card combo deals?  I've
scoured all the help files around and haven't found anything.
Please help me!!!!  I need to race people (expecially him)

GPL Questions....

GSB gives me a lot of trouble too. Sometimes when I launch via GSB, GPL
fails to detect my wheel, other times it fails to initialise my V2's. And,
once I have attempted to connect via GSB, I cannot use the direct connect
option anymore either.

I suggest to ask hosts on GSB to give you their IP number, quit GSB, reboot
and try to connect manually and see how you go then.

I don't know if combined soundcards / modems are nescessarily bad, but I
think it would pay to read up on the subject on Allison's, VROC and linked
pages. There's a lot of tweaks that can be explored in search of a more
stable connection.

Jan./you do need to race people once in a while to stay sane, I agree.

Have you reinstalled _everything_ including latest update drivers for
your graphics card and directx.

I had this for ages and it was because I had a crappy modem.  Check
the ping times he's getting from his modem.  I bought a new external
USB modem from modular tech and it turned out that _by design_ the thing
couldn't get a ping of lower than 300 ANYWHERE.  And it wouldn't even
get that conistently.  Couldn't stay connected to any GPL server
anywhere for more than 5 seconds while using it.  Fortunately the shop I
got it from was good for returns.
