Could somebody please explain the differnces between "direct" joystick
selection and "optimized" joystick selection.
Is one preferable to the other?  If using a wheel, should one be
selected over the other?

i'll have a go:) of course this is just my opinion and i hope it's
reasonably accurate.
Using the "direct" joystick driver is the Direct Input one that comes
with
DirectX. It's got an annoying deadzone programmed in, and if you have
a wheel it generally doesn't act very well unless you have
Thrustmaster's
Propanel. I figure Papyrus couldn't be bothered with messing with a
dubious control input dll like that, so they have their own joystick
reading subroutines - the Optimised choice. This is also what all the
old DOS based sims used, since you can't use dll's in DOS. those DOS
sims
never had deadzones, did they? :)
Some people seem to experience weird near-freeze-ups when they have it
set to Optimized, I read someone saying that if that happens you select
the Direct joystick option and the freezeup goes away.

hope this helps,
Grant.

attention.

I just used optimised and linearity set to full and it's superb. What
a relief after CPR :)

Well, thank you Mr. Rude and Intolerant.
I *HAD* read the readme file.
I was simply (but obviously not simply enough for some) asking for the
differences and reasons behind the two modes.

Obviously you don't have the faintest idea so stop wasting bandwidth.

LOL. Hey Bruce, I think you get into more trouble than me! Thanks for
keeping me company.
