Driver issues?
* 3d board drivers updated (obviously)?
* Soundcard? -- try turning *off* hardware sound acceleration, or upgrading
drivers, for instance.
* FF wheel? -- I've seen GPL crawl to a halt on systems with "bad" FF
controller drivers.

If you upgraded from 95/98/ME make sure to get the
most current XP drivers for you're Video card and
sound card. These two components seem to cause the
most grief.
Also is it just GPL or do you have other Flight sims
or driving sims that work ok ?

No know issues with GPL though if that's what you're asking, but plenty
of known issues with most of todays hardware
