GPL & Serial port Wheels

Anybody get GPL to work with a steering wheel that uses the serial port
instead of the joystick port?  If so, what'd you do to get it working?

Yes I have a "Guillemot Race leader Force Feedback" and it uses the
serial-port. It works fine in GPL .
Trye to remove the joy-stick in the control-panel before you start GPL and
calibrate the wheel.

That doesnt work either.. GPL knows the wheel is there.. cus it lets me
calibrate it and bress the buttons but wont let me assign the wheel to
steering :(

If you've got an internal modem at the 'opposite' port (COM1<->COM3 or
COM2<->COM4), then that will probably be the cause.
If there's no option to avoid this then try ripping the modem out (turn off
puter first :) ) and try again. It'll probably work then, but leaves you with
having to remove the modem each time you want to race, and no online racing.
You may also want to try disabling the modem in 'Start-Setup-Config-System-
Devices tab' (try to imaging where I'm heading you, I'm using Dutch Win).

Hope this helpes,

That sounded logical, but it did not help.  Thanks for the advice.

I posted a message on Sierra's site and they said it will be resolved in the
patch.  However, no release date is available on that patch.

That will let me play the game, but not use the wheel.  Thanks anyway.

What version of DirectX are you using?

I am using a Logitech Wingman Formula Force connected to a serial port.
It
works fine in GPL, but I have to use Direct Input. The Generic driver
doesn't
work, i.e. it won't calibrate because it doesn't see the axes properly.
