Help with serial port please??

Is there a way to check a serial port for functionality?
I have acquired a Guillemot FF wheel for a pittance, but I have some
real trouble getting it to work.  It is supposed to be connected to a
serial port.  I have tried both serial ports com1 and com2 to no
avail, the FF wheel remains "not connected" in the windows control
panel game controllers screen.

all devices working properly in the device manager.

I have flashed the BH6 BIOS with the latest reincarnation.

ANy other ideas?

Cheers

Plug in a serial mouse for starters, that will at least tell you if the
port is functioning.

I do.  I actually have a PS2 mouse, it uses the connector next to the
one for the keyboard.  Is this using the com1 as well?

First go to the control panel system/ device manager and look
at the COMS section. What do you have? Also, doesn't the
installation software for the wheel detect the wheel?

Is you serial port activated in your BIOS?

You can turn the serial ports off in BIOS, and perhaps that was done when
you bought the computer.

Check it...

Yeh, checked that already.  The serial port actually works fine with a
serial mouse so I guess it is the wheel after all.

I connected my mouse to both serial ports with a connector and it
worked fine on both.

Thx

I have two com ports, both are working fine according to the device
manager.  I put my mouse on both com ports consecutively and it worked
fine on both ports.  Of course I also have a printer port listed.

The instalation software does not see the wheel either.  The "editor"
also gives me a "not connected" message.
