Radeon 64DDR and Open GL in Nascar 4

by Gary A. Sorrell » Fri, 21 Sep 2001 11:04:07

I just got this card and it calibrates just fine in 3d3.  I get between
30-60 fps.  But in GL I get 60fps starting out ( and a much better picture)
until the screen blacks out about 30 seconds after I start driving.  I can
hear sounds, but screen is black.I have set all the norm setting for GL,
v-sync is turned off.  System is AMD Atlon 1000, 30gig WD HD, 786 PC-133
SDRAM, on-board SB-128.  N4 is patched.  Any suggestions would be
appreciated as video is much better in GL.

N4 has problems with some of the OpenGL driver versions.  Which version
are you using?

I am using the 4.0 version, specificaly: 4.13.7075.  the build is
D7.20-017b-129C-ATI.  Is this what you need?

The last 4 digits are the important ones.  You are using 7075, which I
believe is one of the ones that have a problem.  I think the newer ones
work, but I haven't bothered to try them.  The 7041 drivers are known to
work reliably with N4, however you do not have to switch drivers in
Windows.  All you have to do is put the OpenGL driver from the 7041
driver set into the Nascar 4 folder.  That way you can still update your
Windows drivers without screwing up N4.  The file name for the driver is
atio9xag.dll.  You can probably find the 7041 drivers at www.rage3d.com.
If you can't find them let me know and I can e-mail the file to you.

There is (was?) a discussion about Radeon drivers for N4 at
http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=15590

You can just put the required drivers in the N4 folder so that you can run
the latest for your other games.

I put the dll in the folder and no luck.  I have un-intstalled and
re-installed and it keeps using the 7075 driver.  The 7014 was on my CD for
the card, but I can't get to overwrite the 7075.  Any ideas?

In the control panel it will always appear to be using the 7075 driver.
But if you put the dll in the same directory as the N4 executable file,
it will find that dll first and run it instead of the installed one.
Re-run the N4 graphics setup to make sure.  Also, you said the "7014"
drivers were on your CD.  Is that a typo?  Because the ones that you
need are the 7041, not 7014.

Yes that was an typo, 7041 is correct.  I'll try it again.

Oops, no, sorry.  It works for me.  The only thing I can suggest at this
point is to ask your question in the forums at www.rage3d.com.  There
are some very well informed Radeon users there who can probably help you
figure it out.

For now you could try running in D3D. The Radeon seems just as fast in D3D
as it does in OGL, doesn't quite look as nice but at least it's stable

Must depend on other hardware or something, because for me OpenGL is
much faster.  I believe the original poster (whatever his name is today)

For me I got about the same framerate using either OGL or D3D, so you're
