ISTR that there was autility or mode which you could use in GPL which
enabled it to be used in either full screen or a window, but I can't
remember where or how?

Anyone got any ideas?

BTW, I'm using a V3 card if it helps...

There is a command in one of the .ini files that allows window mode, but I
don't know if it works with 3dfx cards. I tried it once with my V5 and it
didn't seem to do anything different.
in the core.ini file look for this line:

[ Rasterizer ]
fullScreen = 1 ; run Full Screen?

if it = 1 then it should run in a window next time you start. But the
default is = 0 and when I use either method with my V5 I don't see any
change.

Ok, I've now figured out that I need to be using D3D mode to get GPL in a
window. And I have changed the full screen setting in core.ini.

It works fine when practicing, but, it doesn't seem to go into a window
when I'm hosting a race?

Is there something different I have to do to get GPL into a window when
hosting races? or is it not possible to do this at all when hosting?

Are you hosting via WinVROC? When I host via WV I found it always defaults
to full screen mode. WV appears to override this setting in core.ini. I
think the trick is to set up a server in windowed mode outside of WinVROC
and add the correct lines to the comms section of core.ini so that the
server broadcasts itself to VROC and appears on the race list.

It is possible to host through WinVROC in a window. Requires a bit of hacking,
though. Open winvroc.exe in a hexeditor, search for the phrase "fullscreen" and
change it to something like "fullscreem". Can't remember if it is in there
twice? When GPL is started by WinVROC, the argument will become invalid, and GPL
will launch in whatever mode you had specified in core.ini.

Didn't work on my V5 either... Or on a V3 in my office computer...:(
