PDPI and 4 axis-2 buttons

I just bought a used PDPI-L4 card and Installed it.  I have a home made
controller with the steering on one axis, Gas on another, Brake on another
and clutch on the last.  Then I have the Shift up/down on two buttons.  On
my SB Live, I had no trouble with it but with the PDPI it doesn't recognize
my brake.  I've taken the sound card out and rebooted but it's still not
recognizing the brake.

On the card there are two ports and a switch.  First, What is that
switch for?  Second, any idea's that I could try that may help with the
brake problem?

The switch is to select "legacy mode".  I think this means function
like a conventional game port.  Toward the mobo is "legacy" and away
from the mobo is the desired setting.  This is covered on the cd that
came with my pdpi.  My tsw is 4 axis and works a treat in gpl.  You
should use the directx selection in gpl rather than generic.  Is the
pot for the brake the same resistance as the others?

hehe.. dummy me read the instructions but must have had my eye's closed.
Thanks for saying what direction to set it as the directions say up/down
when in reality it moved left/right.  And the brake pot.. they are all the
same resistance.

I have two or three more races left in the season in my racing league
and I've got only a 3 point lead.   The next race is this Sunday.  So, I'll
use the sound card port till then.
