If this is the Grand Prix presentation Speedvision has shown in the past, I
think it's worth viewing for the behind the scenes interviews with Garner
and Frankenheimer.

Showing it twice in a row too and as I am watching it now they have added
alot of new things with the movie. Vellanuv[sp?] raced with Gardner & they
both used a Lotus & an Eagle.. kinda neet!! :o)

It was a nice touch that Villenuve's helmet was open-faced *and* had his
usual paint job.

As Explained by the director: The Sarte character in the movie was not
suppose to be a secondary figure within the movie but with the way his
acting became so well liked in the movie [by the movie viewer] he was
one of the key figures in the movie!
Also the director felt' he made a huge mistake by cutting to many good
parts of the nice side of Gardner's character. Looking back, he wished
he made Gardner as a more likeable character then what seemed as he
being a bit hard in the movie. Most of his good' scenes were left on the
cutting room floor.. Also remember he didn't want Gardner to play this
role from day 1.. It was suppose to be played by Steve McQueen but
for some reason the meeting' with McQueen went south & he walked
out & wouldnt do the movie.. "O" well..

| Yeah, I was wondering about that segment, I hadn't seen it before, but
| I think I saw a glimpse of a date saying 1999. Not sure if this is
| the first time they've shown that segment or just that I missed it
| before. It's amazing how good that movie still is, even though I've
| seen it so many times. Did you notice that there was no rear end in
| the car they pull out of the drink at Monte Carlo. I still hated the
| Sarte death scene.....
