GPL and Win 98!!!????

by Parke Cochra » Wed, 08 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Grand Prix Legends Demo and 2 formats of the drive (I care A LOT about this
sim) it still doesn't get past the splash screen in Win 98!

P225
Pure3D
Total3D (Both Newsest drivers)
32M
4.3GB
SoundBlaster16 (newsest drivers)
DirectX 5.0

Once, I got to the screen just before the racing but then, when the
sound kicked in, it was garbled and choppy (Baaaaaadddddd garbled) then the
system locked up completely.  No mouse movement either.  A reboot is the
only relief!

Can I get this sim to work in 98?  Or is THAT even the problem?

Thanks for the help in advance!

I have ythe exact same problem on win98 build 1650 (consumer preview
release. Ive about had it with Win98 anyways, it cant seem to detect
my tape drive about half the time it boots up. Going back to win95.
I'll let you know if it solves the problem

 Parke,
Hey bud, if you're trying to race in Win98 beta than don't try and place
blame on the Papy demo. I have fooled around with the Win 98 beta also, two and
three, neither should be considered a working operating system. Of course, some
in this group would argue that on that tact, Win95 doesn't qualify either
<ggg.> Try running it in Win95, it runs great. All the best, Mike

I posted this before but I didn't see it come through. You can edit
the options.ini file to read soundquality=0 and soundstereo=0. Then
you can play the game, except there will be no sound. For now though,
this is the best you can do.

Hi Parke

Had the same problem, deleted Win98 (was thinking about it anyway) and
installed Win95, worked like a charm first time around, JUST DO IT :-)

No luck with win98 either, get to joystick setup screen and then the setup
screen seeems transparent to the mouse, it picks up the stuff from my
desktop through the setup screen, wierd huh.

GPL and Win 98!!!????

by Parke Cochra » Sat, 11 Apr 1998 04:00:00

I posted my concerns about Win98 and GPL a while back.  Do yourself a favor:
Format C: an install Win95 (pref OSR2).  With IE4.0 it's not THAT much
different than 98.  And you'll get to enjoy the greatest demo to come down
the pike in years!!

Summary, you ask???

GPL WILL NOT WORK IN 98.  If you wanna play, you gotta install 95 again.
(Spoken by a Simmer who worked for 16 STRAIGHT hours trying to get the thing
to run in 98!!!  I tried everything short of a hammer and nails)

Good luck!!!

Parke
