MOMO Settings?

by bertr » Mon, 23 Dec 2002 11:59:07

Ok.  So I couldn't wait for replies to my previous post, and I went out
and bought the MOMO Racing Wheel (replacing my LWFF).  What else is
new?  8-)  I'll just call it an early Christmas gift to myself!

Well, this wheel has a totally different feel to it.....  First, the
pedals are way better than the LWFF's, IMO.  The wheel also has a nice
feel to it, but it's gonna take awhile to get used to.  For instance,
the turning angle is significantly more than the LWFF, so what were
little corrections now need to be bigger corrections.  But, for a very
first impression, I'm satisfied.

Now, to my questions:  Does anyone have a core.ini for GPL for this
wheel?  I know that I can tweak on my own, but I'd prefer to start with
someone's who's already experimented a bit.  The core.ini that I used
for my LWFF results in the forces being a bit weak with the MOMO.  I'd
also appreciate linearity settings, etc.

Then, in GTR2002 and F1 2002, I had some customized settings in the
player.ini file, that I got from a post on RAS, that were developed
specifically for the LWFF.  Does anyone know if there's such a thing for
the MOMO?

Other sims that I play less frequently are NR2002, Nascar Heat and its
mods; TIR and Rally Trophy.  I haven't had time to try the wheel with
them yet, but would appeciate any settings/recommended tweaks for those
as well.

Starting tomorrow, I'm gonna be away for a few days for Xmas.  It would
be great to have a few responses to this when I get back so I can jump
right in to these sims with a new wheel.

....and to all RAS'ers, Here's wishing you a very Merry Christmas.  May
Santa fulfill all your wishes....

MOMO Settings?

For GPL I have the steering hack turned on, and full linear steering
selected in the menu.  I have the following core.ini settings:

force_feedback_damping = 0.0000
force_feedback_latency = 0.12000
max_steering_torque = 225.000000

In the profiler I am using 70% FF strength and have the brake axis
sensitivity set to 45% in order to try and get the friction point closer
to the point where the Momo brake pedal starts to get firm.

NR2002 setup is similar IIRC (haven't played it in a while).  FF at 50%
or so, damping either 50% or off, I don't recall, and latency at 120 ms.
I don't think I made any profiler changes for NR2002.  Full linear
steering and steering hack on also.

For GTR I haven't bothered with any player file or profiler tweaks.
Currently using full linearity (i.e. 50% sensitivity) on all axes in
both the game menu and the profiler, 0% speed sensitivity, 0% dead
spots, -66% ff strength, and low ff effects level.  Feels fine just as
is, haven't felt the need to tweak it.

Ok I can not find a core.ini in the directory. Have the patches and things,
but there is no core.ini. How do I get it in GPL.

MOMO Settings?

You need to have patched GPL, like you said you did.  THen you need to
change the way Windows displays files.  Use Windows Explorer to open the GPL
folder.  Then (at least in Win98) you can choose the VIEW menu option at the
top of the screen.  From there choose Folder options.  Then you should see
3 tabs at the top, choose the center one named: View.  Scroll down the list
til you find two items.
a)  Under the Hidden files choose 'show all files'
b) just below that should be a checkbox for 'hide file extentions for known
file types'  Make sure that box is EMPTY,   UN-checked.
Go back to the GPL folder and look for a file called: core.ini.sample.
Open that with notepad and make the changes you need for FF then save the
file BUT MAKE SURE YOU SAVE IT AS:
core.ini   (double check that the .txt option is not chosen at the bottom of
the save box.  When you are done.  Double check the GPL folder.  Sometimes
the file will be saved as core.ini.txt and you then just have to rename it
to core.ini.
good luck
