Problems with Helmets in Rendition Indycar 2

Is there a fix around problems with the custom carsets where the helmets
drivers are wearing will change to somebodys elses when the view is rotated or
they will all be wearing the same helmet.  This is with the Rendition version
of Indycar 2 and the problem occurs with several different carsets.

the only fix is to change all the helmets to white, making each part of
the helmet a different shade.  It looks ok and at least they won't
change if they are all the same

Hi Young,

This is one of the few visual bugs remaining in ICR2-3D...Papyrus doesn't
plan on any futher patches, so it may be up to us to correct.  For more
ICR2-3D stuff, visit TSP at the address below.

I am not aware of a fix for this.  Sure would like one though, since I
spend some time painting proper helmets.  I've noticed that with the
default Renditon carsets that when viewed from in the Driver Info box,
they all have the same "white/gray" helmet.  I wonder if we can get The
Sim Project to look into this?   I wonder if there is two "helmet" files
in the *.dat file and copy one from the default set will cure the
problem...

There are better experts out there than I when it comes to understanding
the *.dat files for ICR2 (and the Papyrus sims).  But, I have been
playing with this to see if one can get a handle on this.  It would
appear that there is a "bug" in the engine of the Rendition patch which
causes the problems with the drivers changing helmets.

In the *.dat files created with the paintkit the helmets are stored in a
very short file format with the extension of pmp (ranging in size from
385 to 885 bytes).  There are 2 groups of files (8 each) helm000x.pmp and
helm00xp.pmp.

In the default carsets for the Rendition version there are helmet files
with the extension of pm4.  Each file is 2,284 bytes long.  Using these
files in a "patched" cars.dat file will recreate the effect seen with
the default carsets.  In other words every driver is wearing the same
white helmet with black lines.  If I only substitute the helm00xp.pm4
files into the patched cars.dat file, all drivers will wear the human
driver's helmet.  The helm000x.pm4 file seems to contain the "generic"
white helmet layout seen in the default carsets.

The format for these files are beyond my brain's CPU capacities.  Unless
some of the wizards out there can crack this, I think we are stuck with
this minor flaw in the Rendition version of ICR2.
