Rallisport Challenge: Custom screen resolutions (widescreen) NOT SUPPORTED

Just in case anyone cares,

Microsoft - for some unknown reason, has hard-coded the resolutions for this
game. Thus you cannot play at 848x480 (EDTV plasma) 1920x1080i (HDTV set) or
even 1280x720 for widescreen LCD displays or plasmas. You only get 640x480,
800x600, or 1024, 1280.

I can't believe they don't even support the STANDARD Geforce4/ATI Radeon
resoltion of 1280x720.

It's a port from a console.  I've said it before, I'll say it again.  This
will be the death of PC *** because we'll get stuck with the least common
denominator.

This is just one example of that.

PC users are about to find out what it's been like to use a Mac for the last
5 years :)

But the conosole SUPPORTS WIDESCREEN 848x480!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If microsoft just used their own DirectX correctly you can have ANY
resolution you want - that is one of the great things about DIrectX......

Right!  Not, console *** isn't Nirvana.
It's OK, put it that way.

I own an Xbox, like it, even have Xbox Live.  Racing games online with the
Xbox and the voice communicatior are cool,
however, for smooth online play that's got the best graphics you can get my
PC wins hands down.

I just don't understand why 1280x720 - a standard windows widescreen
resoltion is NOT supported. So sad.

I've also been surprised at how few Xbox games support 16:9 - especially
since there's a 16:9 setting in the Xbox setup menu.

Yes, I wish more would do it.
16:9 stretched to fit isn't pretty.

And I can't understand why some games (RSC included) insist on using a
non-standard 5:4 format (1280x1024)...

I don't give a squat about that weird resolution.

I want 1280X1024 or 1600X1200.

Microsoft are the publishers not the developers, it was developed by DICE
the same people who did STCC and Rally Masters.

So what is the purpose of this post?? Do you think anyone who has a 4:3 17"
monitor cares about this? Given the drop in price of plasma TV's and other
16:9 LCDs and RPTVs there are MANY people anjoying there games on 50-60"
TV's in high resoltions like 1920x1080. The movie like widescreen spect
ratio is very nice.

For a game not to support DirectX correctly is just stupid - especially when
this is a MS published title.

I am proud of you that you can run your games at 1600x1200 on your 12"
monitor. Enjoy.
