Why does this unit turn my Athalon into a Pentium Classic when ever
force feedback is turned on? With force feed back off I can play Need
For Speed Porsche at 1024x768 with full detail and smoooooth. With FF
on Im down to 800x600, most of the detail off, and still fighting the
jerks. Really dont want to drop to 640x480 no detail! Found the only
games I can play smooth (ISH) are games over a year or two old like
Viper Racing!
Any Idea's how I can play games without having to buy a Ghz chip, so I
can loose 50% of the grunt to the FF device?

MSFF wheel is a notorious CPU hog.  DirectX 7.0a supposedly helped a
*little*, but it's still a pig.  Can you return it?  New Logitech FF
wheel should be out next week for $99.00 MSRP.  Lord knows what the
street price might be, but I'm ahopin'... <g>

I found the problem unacceptable and had to return mine.  I think that sort
of frame-rate drop is a genuine enough reason for a full refund.

Because it uses 1.5million CPU cycles per Force Feedback effect.
The Logitech FF by contrast uses 50 thousand CPU cycles per
FF effect.

I shall try and find the box out of the bin then. :)
I cant ever remember the origonal MS ff wheel being as bad though.. is
it a problem with the drivers or the wheel itself?

I think the problem is with the usb drivers. Ive had both usb and nonusb and
although the non usb version takes a bit more cpu power than say the
logitech wheel, the usb version slows down the computer so much it must be
bugged drivers.

I agree it is likely the drivers. OTOH, the hardware in the LWFF is quite
different than the MSFF, so it could just be hardware.

SInce the hardware in the LWFF is vastly different than the MSFF
it could very well be either or both.
