Looks like you parentage has prepared you well if things don't live up
to the lofty standards around here!
I think GraDee (see post below) has a very good point. Once everyone
has had a play and realized they are not going to create a track a
week we need to get organized into groups. Perhaps the guys from
GPLEA can give us an indication of the personhours required to build a
"releasable" track?

I'll just have to hope I'm being too pessimistic here.

Relax, no one will force you to download and install
their initial and/or poor attempts at track making.
Regardless, quality work always rises to the top, case
in point - do you see many online races for Avus on
VROC? How about Dubai?

I think you are... ofcourse a lot of half-finished, crappy tracks will
be released, but who would care to install them if they're crap?
This just gives people who are willing to spend time and energy in a
good track the change to fullfill their dreamtrack, and does not
hinder the creators from now (Gplea, Martijn, David, etc) in any way
from creating new superb tracks.
And about the problem that different versions will be released from
the same track: I think the community will quickly enough accept the
best of the different versions as the 'real track'.
The only thing I was really affraid of was that this editor could be
used for cheating. Well, I think the 'swappah' has learned us that the
GPL community doesn't like cheating (I haven't encountered a single
fake engine on vroc so far, only a couple of FD cars who clearly state
this in their nickname), and besides a fix for this is in the making
according to Alison.
I was very glad when I heard that it will N-O-T be possible to modify
existing tracks from other users.
I for one can't wait to start building those dreamtracks.. Banked
Monza, Bathurst, Banked Monza, turn 7 from Riverside, Banked Monza..
hell, I even want to build the parking place from my shopping mall :)
I think the news of the soon-to-be-released track editor is FANTASTIC
news, and I'm surprised that the reactions to this news are quite
tame...

Who knows what undiscovered talent is lurking out there? Let's find
out! We need something along the lines of SourceForge (part of
Andover.Net, I believe) where people can register their projects and
solicit collaboration.

I was just toying with the idea of digging out Stunt Car Racer for
some design patterns. .)

Because they thought a banked Monza would be a boring circuit and they
wanted to put their time in more challenging tracks like Solitude and
Goodwood. I would like to have a banked Monza very much, to make the
circuit complete and ofcourse because of the movie Grand Prix.
If this would be possible with the track editor this would be
fantastic.
This won't happen. Just think about this one for a minute.
