Graphically it's probably superior to just about any other rally sim, at
least in car detail, damage modeling, etc, but like many other racers it
tends to use 2d graphics for the trees, rocks, people, etc on the side of
the "track".
Physics modeling are great, you can slide and drift the cars through turns,
but some have labeled it too easy to drive. I thought Mobil 1 Rally had
decent enough physics with the latest patches and tweak utilities, but some
feel it's too "stuck to the road", where Rally Masters is too nervous and
twitchy, with difficult controller setup, and poor documentation.
I'd say CMR2 is somewhere in between those two...
The only caveat is that you'll need a fairly beefed up machine to run it
with decent graphics, otherwise you'll have to turn down quite a bit...
Let's put it this way... I'm running a PIII 933, with 128 meg of RAM and a
64 meg GeForce2 GTS card and I still turn Environmental mapping to standard
or even sometime to off in order to improve frame rate!
However... There is rumored to be a patch out soon that may address this!

I like CMR 2 much better. Even though many said Mobil 1 Rally
Championship felt accurate after patching, I never felt it conveyed
the proper feeling of weight and momentum. The braking was too fast,
and the sliding under-done.
CMR2 is tilted slightly more toward fun and accessibility than total
hard-core simulation, but the good news is that it works
fantastically. The cars are fun to drive, slide how you'd expect, and
look fantastic in replays.
Like the other poster said, it requires a LOT of horsepower to run it
well. I have a P3/866 and Geforce 2 MX, and I backed the resolution
off to 800x600 to keep the frame rates fast.
The two things I don't like about it are an occasional stutter on my
system that doesn't seem to be linked to resoution or detail settings,
and I don't like the windsheild special effect of the***pit view.
It's cool that they tried to model it, but it bothered me enough to
start using the hood view.

yep its fun the harder you go the more rewarding it is, stats of like
arcade, but more like sim at the limit, a well balanced game
I have to comment on this.. Indeed, car detail and damage modelling
are fantastic, but imho the rest looks rather poor. And since you
don't see the car from the***pit view, I can't understand why they
focussed on getting the car so perfect while the scenery hardly looks
better than CMR1. RC2000 does a far, far, FAR better job imho.
CMRII is more 'fun' to drive, you can really make big slides and throw
the car into the corners. RC2000 seems to have a more realistic model,
but to be honest, neither of them give me the feeling of being in a
real rallycar.
Can't really comment on Rally Masters, since I deleted that one after
a couple of hours.
CMRII is good fun as an arcade racer, but the simple graphics, short
stages and waaaay to wide roads spoil the fun for me.
RC2000 with all it's faults is still the best rally sim for me, I
still play it regular.

Is RC2000 the same game that comes in an orange box and reads
Mobil 1
Rally Championship
or is that an older version?

Geez, I had it in my hands the other day and didn't buy it because I
thought it was an older version. Only $36.00 CAD too.

Other way round maybe? Well, anyway, it's called Mobil 1 RC in the UK :)
Then why do people keep calling it RC2000?

I was asking out of curiosity. Is that ok with you? :-o
well, the point is that RC2000 or RC2K or mobil rally something is
really the best rally game out there for simulation.
I know mot of you don't do this (including me because I found out
yesterday) but go check the replays on RC2K, you have about 1232
different camera angles, the rear bumper view with the duest making a
sort of tunnel is REALLY astounding...
