F1RS: Major Sound Problem In Sim!!

by Thom j » Thu, 20 Aug 1998 04:00:00

Hello Fellow Sim Racers; I just got F1 & I am having major sound
problems!! Below is my correspondance with UbiSoft with no real
success yet!! I decided to post this here & ask the real experts!!
Any help willl be appreciated!! Cordially Thom j.
P.S. I am sorry this is so long but I want anyone who will help to
have as much ammo as possible!!
"please remove knowspam to reply"

Tech Group;
I am sending this as a reply & a forward to Frank Morena with my
original reply to Frank.I will reply my second now & below will be
my first reply to Frank. Plus you'll see my original statements that I
filled out on the "tech help" UbiSoft website.

I tried everything Frank said from A to Z. I went into F1' checked the
sound [as told] & also went into the UbiSoft sound check. It worked
just fine.. Then I went into a quick race "Hockenheim.."  I raced a full
4 lap race for the first time. Then I ran the replay & the replay started
changing from my' car to another. Then all sound started jumping and
shreaking until I had no sound again! This was around 10-14 minutes
into the race & then replay..Now! Out of nowhere the F1 shutdown
completely and Windows 98 gave me this message:

I think this is one great sim but if it can't run correctly it will be a
race
simulator I can't use! I will try anything to get this running as long as I
receive good ideas & suggestions!!
I have run N2, ICR2 since they first came out about 3+ years ago &
I run GP2 also but I admit this is one of the best realistic race sims I
have owned!
What I need now is a solution! As far as I know everything else runs
perfectly and the graphics are unbelievably fantastic! So again any &
all help will be appreciated!!! I want to run this "F1" Sim!!
Cordially Thomas Johnson..

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
First Reply to Frank:
Hello Frank; First thank you for your quick informative reply.
As stated below I run many sims on my computer and I do not understand
why I would have to close all tasks execpt Systray and Explorer to run F1?
This seems to me to be a major "clitch" in the program!! I know the F1 sim
"copyright" is 1996 and many things have changed since then but to shut all
my tasks down except two seems extreme!

Question#1: Is it because of Windows 98, my setup, my computer or what?
Could you please detail more? Example: I run "Moto Racer" and the newer
Moto Racer 2 Demo that are major memory eaters! Before I put in my 3D
Blaster Voodoo2 I could not run 3dfx mode and I understand why!! With
my new 3dfx card it runs perfectly and I don't have to do anything except
start the program.
It is the same for Microprose Ultimate Race Pro, Rage Incoming & many
more! In Quake you have to run GLQuake and autoexec.cfg in there ID1
directory to make it run in 3dfx mode. So its a different executable & plus
an added autoexec.cfg config to get it into the 3dfx mode. It makes sense!

Question#2: Do you have any patch, autoexec.cfg, or another executable
or any other way I can run F1 so I can get the engines, skids & whatever
other sound I am not hearing? Again your first reply sounds too extreme!
If this is the way it must be run I will try it but personally it doesn't
sound
like a fix nor a good concrete solution!!
Also again: Please remember I am a 'hacker' not a computer expert by
any means!! But the solution below that you have given does not seem
close to being adequate! Any and all more help will be appreicated!!

Hi, Before running the game, close all applications except Systray and
Explorer, by pressing Ctrl, Alt, Delete.
Also once you're in the game, go to Configure, Sound and make sure that all
the sounds are ON.

 Hello Tech Group;
I just received \"F1 racing simulation\" and I love the sim but I am
having sound problems!! When I go into F1 the intro and sound runs fine,
the menu runs a back ground of workshop effect sounds fine & when the
quick race is loading is plays music while loading is fine!
Now I\"m into the race! Sometimes it will start with my engine and all
other sounds fine but sometimes it will not! When I run the race for the
1st time the sound in the game is fine for about 4 to 6minutes of racing
but then I hear nothing except the spotters voice only and all the other
sounds shutoff! So I have No engine, No skid or other sounds except I
always get the spotters voice "yellow flag, "best lap" & etc..
I raced several times and I always hear the spotters messages with the
yellow flag, new fast lap etc. but no other sounds i.e. engines, skids &
 any other sound!
All the graphics & sounds in the menu are fine but everytime I go into a
race the same problem no sound except the spotters voice!! Once in awhile
in the race I hear [for a split second] F1 sim trying to make the engine
sound everytime I push Button 1 on my joystick on & off.. This is my
configured accelerator button on my joystick!! This is the only time I
remotely hear anykind of engine sound.
Finally when I re-boot Windows 98 I get the sound almost everytime in the
F1 race for the short time of 4 to 6 minutes but then nothing all over
 again!

F1RS: Major Sound Problem In Sim!!

by Greg Cisk » Fri, 21 Aug 1998 04:00:00

Your problem is most likely you are using the wrong
sound drivers. Do you have the 1370 ensoniq chipset?
If so, get these drivers from:

http://www.angelfire.com/co/serkaco1/

You can then install the 3D soundpatch. I know for a fact the
drivers from Ensoniq suck badly and the drivers that came with
my Creative AudioPCI were bad too. It was only after using
the above drivers that the 3D sound started working properly.

Also, what is the size of your swapfile and free diskspace?
I suspect your soundcard drivers though.

Huh. Never heard of that one. Perhaps you could see if you can
put it on www.f1racingsim.com.
