Sound problem in F1RS. Need help pronto!!

by Wolfma » Sun, 18 Jan 1998 04:00:00

First the game crashed every now and then (in wavx2bvr.dll). Then I tried
the "sound fix" (changing Default=WAVX2 to Default=WAVPW in the [DLL_Sxd]
section in snd_cpa.ini. So far no crashes BUT the sound is chopping. A few
times every minute there's silence for up to a sec. Very anoying, I might
add. Who knows what to do??

I am thinking it is your soundcard or drivers. What is a AudioPCI
anyway?

I also experienced this problem and worked around it to some extent.

The two lines in the INI file that refer to SATUR= and FADE=........have
you altered the defaults setting of 5 and 75?

If not, then do so, as this will also improve your start/first corner
situation.  I twiddled around with these settings and have settled on 1
and 11.

I very, very occassionally get a brief moment when the sound disappears
but it is now quite rare.

Greg, it's an Ensoniq AudioPCI soundcard. It could well be the card, or more
likely the drivers. On the other hand, the game could crash just the way I
described it if you don't have enough free space on your HD. I remember
reading some suggested virtual memory settings in this group earlier. Can
somebody repeat that?

Its interesting that you got the crash with the WAVX2 as well as me
(also that the WAVPW fixed it).   The only thing common is the
AudioPCI.  (PPro200, DM3dfx, 128MB, full install of F1RS).  Did you
get less pausing with the WAVX2 setting?  Are you using the 4.05.1038
version AudioPCI drivers also?

As for pauses, I get sometimes them a second or two before an
announcement is made such as for pit stops or pole positions.  This
appears to be a common trait of the program and not due to hardware.
However, there is no chopping in the audio for me.

Dave.

AudioPCI, huh. I'm pretty pleased with the card so far... Have the latest
drivers installed. I had no pauses what so ever with the WAVX2. Mostly I'm
driving in ghost mode, but I don't really think there are any differencies
regarding the annoying pauses. I have sent an email to UbiSoft about this,
wanna know how it progresses? Read on http://www.simproject.com/simnews/
that there is a new patch on the way that might help out with the crashes.
Hope and pray...

Thank's for the tip. I'm too concentrated on my driving to know if there was
an improvement or not.. I think that it got a bit better, just a bit though.

Since you have an AudioPCI, did you get the 3D sound patch
for F1RS? It was on the UBIsoft web site.
