Out of curiosity, what has everyone been able to do at the Rock?
I turned a 149.7 and thought that was fairly good until I looked at
the record.....157 something, I think it says. Also, seems the AI cars
are, as a whole, faster here than other places. Seems that the whole
stinkin field can turn 149s. 147.4 or so is only good enough for 14th
fastest in practice. (AI at 100%)  Do I just suck here or is the AI
that good?

This track is tough on setups - because the setup through turn one and two
is very different from that for turn three and four.  You tend to push out
in one and two losing time off turn two and down the back straight.  Also,
"the Rock" is a tough place to pass.  I found Dover lap times to be too
high for the AI cars and did turn rels down one notch - this was
particularly true when using the "AI patch" available from the pits.  I
find "the Rock" AI strength to be acceptable - but difficult.  I can stay
with the AI cars around the track - but I can't pass very much.  At Dover
with rels=103 (I think this was the normal), the AI cars would drive away
and turn laps in excess of 156 consistently - very unrealistic by real WC
standards.  150-152 is more typical.

I don't think you suck here - it is just a tough track to setup for.  I
think your 14th place is ok.  Run a race with these results and just try
and stay with the pack.  You will learn a lot from this and should be able
to work on the setup better after a race.  If you cannot stay with the AI
cars - then you have some problems to work on immediately.

What I found with my fastest qualify setup I could not pass on the straight, I
needed more r's coming out of the turn to pass on the straights. My actual
race setup which is slower per lap is better against the AI. Now I can
actually catch them down the straight, my best quailfying setup could only
stay even. And once you get to the corner first then they'll adjust to you and
you'll take the position.

I was where you are till I downloaded a setup off the net.  The guy's
initials were ph I think.  Now I can do low 150s and run up front at 100%,
but it's not easy.  A key is to brake just a touch early and be full on
the gas well before the apex.  The actual record is well out of reach for
me (or the AI at 100%).  By the way, the same guys setup makes Michigan a
boring win at 100%.

Pekka's setup also helped me build one hell of a car for Talladega.
