My lap times for Taladega seems to be much lower that the actual speeds during
the lap. For example, during a lap my speed never goes below 188  (turn 2) and
190 (turn 4). During most of the lap my speed is well above 192, (195
start/finish) and in the back stretch goes over 200, yet my lap time will be
about 190. What gives?

Check your Taladega.txt

There should be a line like this:
LENGT 2660

If the number is lower your avg lap speed will be computed as slower.

2660 represents 2.660 miles

That seems right, your speeds in the turns and straights match your avg. lap
speed.  Also if you take a high line around the race track, it will be slower
because your going a greater distance around the track also.

you need to work on your setup you should be able to run in the 197.8
to 198.00 range with a little work to your setup and running a low line in
the turns.

That's true, but that's running in the draft.

Check and see what the wind speed is and what the temp is. I run about
191 in the turns and 203 on backstretch and I am running about 196mph

Sounds to me like your either off on your line a bit in the turns or your
car is pushing too much scrubbing your speed off early, most likely the
latter.  For example at the apex of the turn you should still be running
~195mph. With your exit speeds you should be running about a 192/3mph lap.
to get 196.xxx  you'll need to have an exit speed of 190+ in the corners and
a backstretch speed of ~204 and hit about 198 at start/finish.

As mentioned earlier temp/wind will affect it as well.

Hope that helps.
