Press O or Alt-O and he will call out lap times/speeds.  Apparently
there is a bug so that if you bump the wall on the front straight
before the start/finish line, the spotter will stop.  You'll have to
toggle this feature off and then on to get it working again.

Yes, hit "o" or "ALT - o" to toggle the spotter doing lap times.

while practicing at Dover Downs the spotter verbally read the lap times. I
was surprised as this is not documented. However, I have not been able to
get this to work anymore. Has anyone know how to activate this? It is
quite useful because it allows you to monitor tyre temps etc while being
informed at the same time about lap times.

Unless I'm mistaken, it's documented either in the manual or the README
file. Just hit "O" or Alt-O to toggle it on or off. It does seem like you
need to complete a lap first before you try to turn it on.

Hit Alt O.  It's on your list of key board commands that came with N2.
It's a little single sheet of paper that's handy to have laying under
the keyboard.

Just type 'O' or 'ALT-O'.  This is documented.  It's on the
supplemental card under the heading "In-Car Keyboard Commands"

I was reading the following "conversation" you were having, and have come
to the tongue-in-cheek conclusion N2 has destroyed my keyboard!

>>while practicing at Dover Downs the spotter verbally read the lap >>get

this to work anymore. Has anyone know how to activate this? It is

something wrong with the above...

I don't know about that key... is it far from my "L" key?

Do you have a different keyboard?  (mine has K and M not k and m)

Cross the start line? Like in a whole lap?  Not me!

So sum up: I've been ripped off by N2... I think I used to have those
keys (at least it seemed to me I was able to type them), but can no
longer find them printed as such as they were before I started playing N2
and reading this newgroup.

Press to "o" (thats the letter between m and p), if you didn't read
about that it is likely the you don't know about the "l" key
either(between k and m), this will get Ned to tell you when the leader
crosses the start finish line.

I hit "O" before I pull out of the pits and it works fine. You do have
to run  a COMPLETE lap to get a time tho'. The warm-up lap doesn't
count. <g>

Between m and p? is that where the o goes? I thought I was mispelling a bunch
after I installed N2.

I think you got it right. I had a 104 key keyboard before N2 and now it's 107
with 3 empty spots for more keys...  ;)

Apparently it not a bug with NASCAR 2 but a problem with the install
routine for the TEN software. The official fix is to do a DOS install
or re-install your keyboard after you have loaded NASCAR 2. You should
then find your missing keys (but they may not be where they were
before!!)

It is on your quick reference card - hit "alt-o" for him to read your
lap times.

Oh ***, your right. It must be another bug. I'll report it to Jim
ASAP. :)
