The simulators look very impressive. The one thing that surprised me was the
unrealistic seasting position. Pretty much every race car features a
stretched out layout with your legs in an almost horizontal position when on
the pedals. These sims seem to have a much more upright "bus driver" seating
position. I was wondering why that design decision was made.

From what I've seen on TV over here it looked like NASCAR drivers sat with
their legs more outstretched than in the sim. I guess they need to sit
upright to steer with those huge bus wheels.

The pedals , look like off an old truck or bus. I would think it would be
very hard to heel & toe with those pedals. Ideally they need to be top
pivoting, but even if they were smaller and not massive platform pedals.
Also on race cars, the pedals arnt evenly spaced out. The brake and throttle
are fairly close together with a bigger gap for the clutch.
The setating position, the seat needs to be alot lower , the wheel looks
like it would almost be touching your legs. Also it looks quite cramped with
the wheel being so close, but i cant see that its adjustable.
The location, its not at my house :)
Luke
The wheels and pedals are ECCI.

youre right stuart
about 12k for the entire rig
still an entertainment value if you consider all the time/fun
remember that most of the components are usable elsewhere
the lcd projectors and proj screens are fab for dvd and hi-def tv playback
speakers and stereo amps for music
ECCI controls NEVER wear out and feel like the real thing - leather
wheel, fluid damped so it doesnt spring back to center, progressively
weighted brake, real billet aluminum throughout etc.
i also use these for flight and helicopter sims.
the realism/immersion factor is high
i practiced flying the chopper in fs2002 and learned to maneuver/hover etc
then i went and rented a REAL chopper and flew it the first time - probably
better than the sim!!
thats about as good a recommendation as you can get for the reality factor
in current sims.
did the same with a sprint car - practiced on ratbag sprint cars and then
rented the real thing in a racing school. i felt unbelievably at home in the
real thing, even though i was pretty scared!!
going into the first corner i remember feeling quite amazed at how
comparable the sim was to the real thing.
the car physics was incredible....
any way these are LOTS-O-FUN.
these are prototypes for a semi-trailer installation that will show up at
your local racetrack for pre-race fun
