Customize N2's Paintkit

While I know N2's paintkit isn't all that great, there a few things you
can do to make it much more tolerable.  First you'll need a utility to
unpack the layout.dat file.  I got mine from:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/~rueck_cw/pages/racesim/utility/trpckv10
zip

Once you've done that, you can edit the .pcx files that make up the
paintkit.  The first thing to try is to customize the decal.pcx so that
you can use your own templates and decals (Monte Carlo headlights would
be especially useful).  I've always hated the dark background in
paintkit, and you can edit the detail.pcx to change this (I changed
mine to a light gray).  Lastly it's easy to lost track of the black
cursor on dark colored cars, especially with N2's default dark
background.  I changed my cursors to a bright orange, but any easy to
spot color will work fine.  To do this you need to edit the 3 cursor
files (dthin.pcx, d.medium.pcx, and dthick.pcx).  I hope this will be
of use to someone.

Eric, I for one have to thank you for your great tip on fixing the
background colors and cursor in N2 paintkit. It's so much easier now.
I also changed the bodyshop background which was a more work but worth
the trouble. Keep passing those great tips along!!

Thanks, Gary C.

BTW, I missed a few cursors in that original post.  You'll probably
also want to change the eyedrop.pcx and copy.pcx as well.
