Yeah, but people like me who have a legitimate copy of the game hate
digging through the manual every time we boot it up too.  Hmmmm.... if
there were only some way for Wen-Kai to verify that he actually paid for
a copy of the game, I'd be happy to divulge the hex-edit he
needs to do to get around the password protection.  But, there's no way
to do that that I can think of...... sorry, Wen-Kai!  Any suggestions as
to how he can prove he owns the game?

On version 1.05 of ICR both myself and a friend have discovered that pressing
enter at the password prompt takes you straight in.

Not much point. It's available on FTP if he looks hard enough anyway...

Uh, Jed..... I think you've basically just told everyone that you and
your friend have two pirated copies of Indycar.  Nice work. :-)
Indycar 1.05 won't let you bypass the password entry unless you've
hex-edited the executable and changed this one hex-string which I
can't remember off the top of my head.  Unless the UK version is
different or something?  Anyway, my US version 1.05 certainly didn't
allow me to just hit enter... I had to do the hex-edit.

ahhh, the "straightforward" approach.  Presumably, if someone copied the game,
they either (a) copied the manual too, or (b) can call their friend who bought
the game and has the manual.

Someone mentioned it's available by ftp somewhere.  Much as I'd like to, I
wouldn't feel right just handing it out here, so search around for it...

How about this?
What is word x on page y line z?  If answered correctly,  then a legit version
is probably their.

BTW. I would like the hex-edit info also.

Hey wenkai,
The only way to get around the copy protection is to get indycar ver1.05 probably available
from papyrus and with 1.05 you just have to press enter when the code screen comes up.

Dong! Wrong! These are 100% legit copies.
We both bought, The original Indycar, Track pack and Indy/Paintkit.
We installed them in that order and don't ask me why, we can get straight
in just by pressing enter.
Even after wiping my hard drive and installing it again I can get straight
in.
Maybe its just the version shipped to the UK.
I don't know.
Can I regain some dignity now?

I think there must be a difference between the european and the US version
of ICR because I have discovered the same thing Jed has. I bought the Track
Pack which includes the 1.05 version and I don't have to enter the password
anymore (in fact, I didn't hex-edit the game).

Bye, Michael

ACtually, I believe WEn-Kai lives in Oregon, USA, so that's not gonna
work.  My US Indycar version 1.05 didn't allow that without doing the
hex-edit.  Sounds like there may be a difference between the US and
foreign versions.

Yeah, ask him what word 5 on line 9 of page 39 is.   Oopps make that page 38.
Either he paid for the game or his friend finally got him a copy of the manual.
At 10 cents a copy it is almost cheaper to buy the game.
And the password is really annoying.

There's a sheet of passwords that I've seen floating around.  Some guy was
so bored that he decided to sit down and type 'em all in I guess.  Anyway,
no need for 10 cents a copy if you've got access to that.  As cheap as you
can get Indycar for these days, though, I almost think it's worth buying
it so you can read what the manual has to say!  Especially if you're
clueless about setting up the car, like I was before I read thru it.
