I returned it for my full $50.00 refund! To hell with them. The game was
boring and full of bugs. Good riddance! More time for GPL. I suggest that
those of you who, like myself, could not get the game to work, or are
dissatisfied with the amount of bugs and bad AI, do the same. Send them a
message.

CloneCD done a fine job making a backup copy for me.
Bugs?, yes without a doubt and more than ever in this version. I'm sure Papy
is working on it and will improve, but like all other versions it will never
be without some.

Boring?, not sure how you can make that statement when you say you couldn't
get the game to work. Without a working game, how does one judge the AI's,
find bugs and so on?

seen on a software title.

Why did you mention CloneCD?  I'm just curious, since he said the game wouldn't
RUN - not copy...

Here, I assume he's referring to the errors/bugs that have been pointed out
here before.

Depends. Are they returning it because it is too hard or because of
the silly copy protection won't allow them to run the game at all?

You are correct, sir. Also, as I understand it, if I did get the cracked
.exe, I still would not be able to race online. I find no thrill in racing
AI all the time. It was the right solution...for me.

Eldred,

I mentioned CloneCD per his subject line although looking at it again I
guess he was referring to the problems people have had getting it to install
on some CD-ROMS. Still, from what I'm reading from his message, in one
breath he did install it and found it boring and full of bugs, but in that
same breath he said it wouldn't work. This just doesn't make sense to me and
yes, "he says" he found bugs and errors, not from reading through these
groups.

Hi Alastair,

I wasn't referring to a cracked *.exe. CloneCD will make an exact copy on N4
for a backup copy even with the copy protection Papy has enforced. This is
what I thought you were talking about....sorry.

Oddly I've had no problems with N4 {knock on wood!} and for being
too hard? hmmmm? I think the smoothness' of the action within the sim

That was funny, Eldred. O.K. Here is the deal. I bought N4 for $50.00. It
installed fine. I could not get it to run. Period. I got the cracked .exe
and ran the game against the AI. I could not go online. I found the AI wacky
and several "buggy" behaviors. I guess I am not a Nascar fan because I found
it boring and very easy to drive. Nothing like GPL. I returned the game
because I thought I should be able to race online. Also, I didn't feel it
was necessary to go to all the BS of Clone CD and doing this or that to get
it to work. Dave, I do have a bad attitude when I pay good money for a
product that doesn't work properly. Don't you? After all, your website is
buycoolcrap.com. This, to me, was not cool crap. Just crap.  Getting a
refund was the right solution for me because where I bought it won't accept
returns of software. I am grateful that Sierra at least provided this
option. I sincerely hope that all of you who are enjoying N4 continue to
enjoy it.

N4 - How I solved the bogus copy protection scheme.

I understand your pain but, I generally have little patience when people start
bad mouthing things like N4 or TEN or any other such things because they have
a problem running it, when it is quite obvious that there are hundreds, if not
thousands of others running the very same piece of software without nary a
problem.  I had a minor bit of trouble with mine getting online when I first
bought it, found out there was a patch for my specific problem, installed it
and have had not one problem since.  One thing Papy has always seemed to be
good at is correcting problems as they come to light after the release of
software.  How many other companies are there out there that release patches
to fix problems with games?  Most of them release the game and, "thank you for
your money, now get lost."  So when I hear someone complaining about not being
able to run the game, when thousands of others are doing it without one
problem, it tells me that there is probably something wrong with their setup,
not the game.
