crashes to the desktop isn't just bad, it's absurd. Every 3 races seems
to be the norm. It's *far* worse than the old GPL problem.
Tracks are rather odd - Donington is OK from what I can tell, but some
of the others... places like Curva Grande at Monza are a *slightly*
diffferent length from the GPL version, which causes no end of braking
problems. And as for Tripoli... what's that ***y great rock arch? And
why the single solitary "fantasy" track - did they want to put in Indy
or something but couldn't get the licence?
Graphics - pretty good, though it would have been nice to have *real*
advertising posters introducing each race, at least for the "real"
tracks. Surrounding countryside is lovely - Donington Hall is pretty
much spot-on. In-car dashboards are decent - the Auto Union C, for
example, seems to have the dials in the right place, and it's not too
far off the real thing - certainly acceptable.
Racing - well, OK I suppose. It's just too arcadey; you never forget
you're playing a game. "Immersive" is not the word. Too few cars, too.
And there's no proper records system.
Sound - absolutely ***y awful. It's *far* too quiet. These things
make a hell of a racket, and I want to hear it! It comes down to this:
when I listen to a "Bugatti 35B", it doesn't sound like one. Not even
nearly.
So... I think C-/D+ is about the mark. I'll persevere for a while, but
I no longer consider it equal to TOCA. It's not awful, but it isn't
very great.
