Any luck with OpenGl patch?

by The Excelsi » Tue, 22 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Has anybody had any luck getting the OpenGl BETA 2 patch working for
GPL?

I have installed it on my Pentium II 300MHz, 128MB of RAM and an Ati
Rage Pro, but when I started GPL all I received was a black screen.
The game was running in the background because I could hear it, and I
could also move the cursor, but nothing else.

I thought that perhaps this was an incompatability issue with the 3D
card, but when I installed it on my Pentium MMX 166MHz with 32MB of
RAM and a 12MB Voodoo2, I had exactly the same problem.

I wonder why they didn't support the Voodoo2's with the OpenGl patch,
as it is one of the most common cards.

It's not that its not supported, just that 3dfx's beta OpenGL drivers
are pretty pathetic at the moment for anything other than the
Quake-engine games (even then their miniGL performs much better).
Besides, GPL already has a native Glide version so why would you want
to use the OpenGL rasterizer anyway?

I think the beta OpenGL patch is mainly meant for TNT cards, not Ati
Rage Pro.

Works fine on both a Hercules TNT2 Ultra and the Diamond Viper 770Ultra
(also a TNT2 Ultra) :)

Creative TNT2 ultra did not work, of course with my history it is probably a
PEBCAK issue (Problem Exists between Chair And Keyboard)

Niether did a Canopus 2500 TNT card

I have not heard of anyone that was able to get an ATI adapter to work
with GPL and the OpenGL Patch. You may wish to spend ~$50.00 at
CompUSA and get a Diamond Monster II w/ 8mb.

How much are 12MB cards going for?

I use TNT2 now, but could use a sister for my VDII for SLI mode.

Actually its meant for any card with a fully hardware accelerated
OpenGL ICD, but currently NVIDIA's drivers are the most functional.

They are not listed now, but the wanted $130 something for them! Makes
no cents :-) (really bad pun) I think you could get a Creative Labs
12MB refurb from them direct at

http://www.soundblaster.com/specials/voodoo2/

for the same $49.99

Can you mix this with a Diamond MII 12MB?  Does it come with the cable?

Thanks!

In other words, find another Diamond Monster II 12MB :)

Thanks!

You better do some home work. The Creative Labs 12MB refurb
hasn't been available for $49.99 almost 2 months now..

Are you sure about that? How about you go to the site and notice that
it is active again. They are still taking orders! That to me means
that they are still selling them.

I did my homework, did you do yours?
